The Ravadi Guard

The Ravadi Guard are group of elite guards who protect the royal family of Avalateur, the Claddenals. Only women are allowed to become Ravadi, and typically it is a family tradition to become one. Having a mother or other female family member in the guard makes it easier to join, but is not impossible to do so without. The Ravadi are widely known throughout the world for the bright red uniforms they wear.

All Ravadi are outfitted with a traditional Avalatean battle staff, which they carry with them at all times while on active duty.

Recruitment

Only Avalatean women are considered, and it usually helps if one has a family member already serving. It is not impossible to join without family in the guard, but it is a lot harder without someone to vouch for oneself. Prospective Ravadi go through extensive training during their late teenage years before a series of final tests when they reach adulthood. Those who pass become Ravadi, and those who fail return to being normal citizens.

History

The Ravadi have been a core part of Avalatean history for centuries. The Guard was created by King Samsaud Claddenal in honor of his daughter, Ravadi, in 356 1D after she was killed by a Serusian assassin. He originally made the guard with the intention that they would be an elite squadron to be deployed to fight in the Daughter's War with Serus, which started as a result of Ravadi's death. However, he decided that they would serve as the family's royal guard in order to prevent another assassination. The Guard has served the Claddenal family ever since.
