Mount Belos

Grc: βηλός θεσπεσίος ("Threshold of the Gods") - Belos Theopesios

The highest mountain in Hellas, located at the border of Thessaly and Macedon, Mount Belus is the heavenly threshold to the Kingdom of Olympos, located above the sky, where the world's twelve most powerful daimones hold court under the leadership of Zeus Most High.   Some refer to Belus itself as Mount Olympos.

Geography

Rain and wind have produced an isolated tower almost 3,000 metres (9,800 ft) above sea level with many peaks and an almost circular shape. The mountain has a circumference of 150 kilometres (93 mi), an average diameter of 26 kilometres (16 mi), and 500 square kilometres (190 sq mi) of area. The Makryrema stream separates Mount Belos from the massif of Voulgara. On its southeastern side, the Ziliana gorge divides Mount Belos from Kato Belos (Lower Belos), while on its dry southwestern foothills, known as the Xirokampi, are the villages Sykaminea and Karya. Further east, the plain of Dion is fertile and watered by the streams which originate on Olympus.

Fauna & Flora

The Xirokampi are covered in chaparral, which provides habitat for animals such as wild boar.
