Asklepios

Grc: Ἀσκληπιός - Egy: Imhotep - Lat: Aesculapius - En: Asclepius

Asclepius is a daimon of medicine and represents the entirety of the medical arts. He was associated with the Roman/Etruscan god Vediovis and the Egyptian Imhotep. He was one of Apollo's sons, sharing with Apollo the epithet Paian ("the Healer"). The Rod of Asclepius, a snake-entwined staff, is still invoked as a symbol of medicine today.   Those physicians and attendants who served this daimon were known as the Therapeutai of Asklepios (or Therapeutrides of Asklepios for all-female orders).

Divine Domains

Medicine and the medical arts.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

The Rod of Asklepios traditionally has a single single snake wrapped around it. In Modern times, this rod has come to be confused with the Kerukeion (Caduceus) of Hermes, which has two snakes and optional wings. Where the Rod represents medical practice, the Kerukeion is traditionally associated with trade, eloquence, negotiation, alchemy, wisdom, and controversially, thievery, lying, and the passage into the underworld.
