Dunwich

Dunwich is a vibrant, multicultural city known for its unique subterranean resources, expert craftsmanship, and diverse population. Initially established by dwarven refugees from the cursed city of Dunvar, it now hosts a blend of various races, including humans, gnomes, elves, and more. The city’s primary language, Dunvari, is a rich dialect of Dwarvish, reflecting its founding origins while incorporating influences from the many cultures that have since found a home in Dunwich.   The city's existence owes much to the fortuitous discovery of hidden underground rivers and a vast aquifer beneath the grasslands of the region. These resources provided not only fresh water but also unique minerals, both crucial to the city's development. Recognizing the potential of these newfound riches, the dwarves established Dunwich and constructed an intricate system of wells and tunnels to harness them. Their mastery in engineering and architecture resulted in stable, defensible structures, both above and below ground, marking Dunwich as a secure and prosperous place to live.   Over the centuries, Dunwich evolved into a bustling trading hub, its reputation bolstered by the exceptional dwarven craftsmanship and the unique resources the city had to offer. This resulted in a thriving marketplace attracting merchants from far and wide in search of high-quality goods and materials.   This rich cultural intermingling shaped Dunvari, the city's official language, infusing it with elements from various tongues and broadening its vocabulary and grammar. While retaining its dwarven roots in script and certain linguistic features, the modern Dunvari encapsulates the melting pot of cultures that have influenced Dunwich and the larger Estari Dominion.   Today, Dunwich stands as a significant power within the Estari Dominion, thanks to its primary role in weapon and armor crafting for the empire's military. Its heritage, reflecting in its language, architecture, and cultural diversity, and its vital role in the Dominion's defense, establish Dunwich as an indispensable part of the empire's fabric. It's a testament to the resilience and adaptability of its inhabitants, who transformed a group of refugees' settlement into a cornerstone of an empire.     Notable Features and Locations:   The Diamond Memorial - A monument in the center of Dunwich, honoring the lost dwarven city of Dunvar and its people.
