Jossanus Romulat Mekulet (a.k.a. Joss)
Joss is the main character of the series.
Personal History
Joss was born in Heartland as the son of Vivian and Nataniel Romulat Mekulet. As the only child of a member of the Triamic Council and scion of a high-ranked House Mekulet clan, Joss experienced a high-class but solitary childhood. He was groomed with the expectation that he would be great one day, especially given that the size of his magical Mekulet birthmark indicated his magic would match his mother's in power.
However, Joss proved a late bloomer, not coming into his magic at age 12 as is usual. Finally, at age 14, he managed to get in touch with his magic... only for it to explosively backfire, destroying his hand in the process. His mother, who was tutoring him at the time, was caught in the blast and killed. His father brought him to the best healers in the Empire, but they were unable to save Joss' hand.
Following the accident, a rift sprang up between Joss and the rest of his family. This culminated in a massive argument with his father wherein Joss stormed out and ran away from home.
He arrived in Ipse a week later, where he was identified by the local guard and brought to the ducal palace in preparation to be sent back home. Hayden, the Ipse Node who had received news of his over the Network, intervened with both the guard and Clan Romulat and offered him a position as his page.
