Et'ens
Ethnic group associated with Et'cha
History
Et'en history is, in many ways, defined by their relationship with the Mukala (see House Mekulet).
The Et'en people began their existence as Jachi'en, "The People of the Sky."
The Awakening - 1593 BEC
Beginning in the 1400s BEC, the Jachi'en discovered the magical properties of blood, and thus began their practice of animal sacrifice, allowing them to do things like calling rain on their fields and fend off pestilence. This gave them an advantage over the neighboring tribes, but not enough to defend against the Mukala.
The Desert Wars - 1300s-900s BEC
The Mukala were hungry for power, pushing against the Jachi'en again and again. By the 900s, the Mukala had official domain over the Crimson Sands. The Jachi’en tribe were forced to flee west into the area they named Sol’cha (Land of the Sun). Any Jachi’en caught by the Mukala were enslaved.
Exile - 730s BEC
After a few centuries of border tension, the Mukala Dominion expanded west into Sol'cha. After a hard-fought war, the Jachi’en are pushed west, to the island of Et’cha (the Land of Exile). There, the Jachi’en conquered the local tribes and integrated, becoming the Et’ens (Exiled People).
They have never forgiven the Mukala for this.
Culture
In Et'Cha, there is a particular kind of shell that, when hung outside the window in the wind, makes the sound of waves. Many people use this as a sort of white noise generator by hanging them outside the bedroom window.
The Dragon of Kashi
The Dragon of Kashi is largely regarded to be a myth--since dragons themselves are mythical--but the island locals will swear up and down that the ancient dragon is still alive under the earth, just sleeping.
