Dragons
Dragon is a term utilized to describe all the creatures that were either originally created by the God Bahamut also known as the Platinum Dragon, or descendants of those creatures both from environmental evolution and magical transmutations.
Al dragons are physical and mortal, though some dragons, especially those of older generations, have lifespans that are too long to be quantified, being still alive and healthy in the modern age, they will all eventually die of old age.
It is useful to divide dragons into categories based on their origin:
Primordial dragons
Primordial dragons are all the dragons directly created by Bahamuth and are all unique, the only similarity being their reptilian nature and immense power.Antebellum dragons
Antebellum dragons are the dragons that were created by the primordial dragons, they are called antebellum because they were created before the massive draco-giant war, and are divided into three major categories:- Ishari Dragons: Native to the continents of Ishar and Ishtar all of these dragons have four limbs and two massive wings and most can be divided into three further subcategories. However, some do not belong in any subcategories. All Ishari dragons are capable of changing their form into a smaller humanoid form, some can achieve only one specific form, and some are masters of many forms including those of other non-humanoid species.
- Chromatic Dragons: Created by the primordial dragon Tiamat, there are five kinds of chromatic dragons, white dragons, blue dragons, red dragons, green dragons, and black dragons.
- Metallic Dragons: Created by the primordial dragon Kithoragh, there are six kinds of metallic dragons, silver dragons, steel dragons, copper dragons, brass dragons, gold dragons, and bronze dragons.
- Gem Dragons: Created by the primordial dragon Kaliya, there are five kinds of gem dragons, amethyst dragons, crystal dragons, emerald dragons, sapphire dragons, and topaz dragons
- Prominent uncategorized dragons: created by various other primordial dragons the most prominent or important are song dragons, bone dragons, and the now-extinct Draco rex from which Ishar and Ishtar wyverns are descended.
- Axali Dragons or Coati: Created by the primordial dragon Quetzalcoatl, they are serpent-like creatures with colorful bird wings the largest species are called Quetzalcoati (Quetzalcoato singular) in honor of their creator, and the smaller species are just collectively known as Quetzal.
- Uxali Dragons: Created by the primordial dragon Lóng, they were massive creatures far bigger than other antebellum dragons, similar in appearance to snakes with four legs the Ancient Dragon Emperor was the last of its kind, and now his half-human children and their descendants remain.
Draconoids
Draconoids include all dragons that are derived from antebellum dragons, either by natural evolution or magical and scientific methods, there are many such species but some are more of note than others:- Dragonborn: Created by the Ishari dragons as footsoldiers to fight the war with the giants and then the draconic civil war, they were created by magic ritual using the dragons' blood, they are considered the only sapient species of draconoid.
- Wyverns: The common name given to any non-sapient species of draconoids that evolved naturally from antebellum dragons, the most common Ishar and Ishtar species of wyverns have only two limbs and two wings, but some have four limbs and no wings.
- Drakes: Created by the giants to fight the dragons in the draco-giant war, they are non-sapient, and have four limbs even if some species are bipedal, they were predominantly used as mounts or beasts of war by giants, originally created by magic rituals using dragon corpses, some modern species evolved naturally after the fall of the Giant Empire. There are many species of drakes and the sizes range from the biggest at 7m tall (foot to shoulder) and 15 m long (not counting the tail), to the smallest at 1.5 m tall (foot to shoulder) and 2.5 m long (not counting the tail).
- Leviathans: Also known as sea drakes, sea serpents, or sea dragons, no one is really sure of their origin, some say they evolved from Uxali dragons, others from Ishari wyverns, they are non-sapient there are many species of leviathans in Mundus' oceans, they appear as sea serpents, some with fins but most have no limbs that range from 6m long for the shortest specie to 20m long for the largest.
- Dragon-turtles: most likely a kind of Uxali wyvern but some scholars debate about their origins, large turtle or tortoise-like creatures, legends tell of dragon-turtles as big as an island but the largest recorded specimen was 15m long, their sapiency is debated being the second smartest draconoid species after the Dragonborn, they do not live in civilized societies nor do they seem to communicate verbally, but groups often take part in religious-like pilgrimages to what scholar think are sacred places for the specie.
- Kobolds?: Not much is known of the true nature of kobolds, but they do refer to themselves as dragons, if they are related to dragons they must be some form of draconoid similar to the Dragonborn, maybe some failed early prototype version, they are sapient, barely, and look like small reptilian humanoids.
