Spindle

The most common Stenza spindle is a top-whorl spindle crafted most commonly out of bone (although wood spindles are not unknown; it appears they have been crafted in a pinch to help with a larger-than-average spinning load, a practice which still sees use in the modern day). The base design can be modified depending on the type of fiber available, but the most common fibers come from Basket Horns, and the average design is meant to accommodate both the fur and the undercoat of the animal.
Spindles are among the tools which litter the ruins of the oldest of Stenza settlements, suggesting (along with the cloth remains which have survived) that they are at a minimum old enough to have gained ubiquity by that time.
Occasionally, spindles are lost. They are commonly found weeks or years later in nooks and crannies, having been hidden there by pups thinking they were toys (or at least, fun to play with).

Manufacturing process

Spindles are carved out of slender bones or sticks with small knives, of the type that most people would have on hand for various different purposes (often the manufacture of spindles among them). This knife, or a separate tool entirely, can be used to bore the necessary holes and grooves into the spindle to render it functional.
