Japan established contact with the people of Cipangu in the 6th century.
Starting from the 6th century onwards, the people of Cipangu had extensive contact with Japan. There is no exact date when this discovery started. The first concrete date is a japanese envoy send to Cipangu in 545. The japanese contact brought many important inventions to Cipangu and the whole of Mu, among them are Eurasian crops and animals, writing and philosophies such as Buddhism and Confucianism. Ultimately yet also diseases like a devastating smallpox epidemic in the 740s, which originated in Japan.
