Queens City - Athens

Athens is a moderately sized, densely populated and vertically-oriented residential district located somewhat west of the Queens inner city districts. It sits along the eastern banks of the Idlewood aqueduct, south of the large suburban pseudo-city of Berkley, west of municipal commercial hub Beckenham, with the lower end market of Keith's Square situated to the distant south. Athens is regarded among the largest residential quarters of Queens despite its somewhat confined geographical size - this is accomplished via massive "super-condo" housing facilities and apartment complexes stretching as high as skyscrapers capable of supporting tens of thousands of residents individually. Athens houses many of these such complexes often interconnected via efficient use of hyperloop transit lines or walkways and overpasses suspended hundreds of metres in the air. As a result, Athens is able to support a population among the largest of Queens city easily achieving the highest population density record and residents per cubic feet.

Infrastructure

Mega apartment complexes and massive housing facilities dot the skyline of athens comparable to the commercial skyscrapers of Newport inner city even. These are efficiently built using Arch Retail Corp's 3d printing technologies many of such allowing complete facilities to be generated and developed completely using 3d printing in what the market refers to as 'Digital Retail'. Affordable cost and maintenance makes such complexes the ideal residence for those looking to sacrifice a degree of space for a bargain price which has contributed to the economic boom regarding mass retail industries. Many such complexes exist throughout much of Cairns though Athens' own mega complex boasts the best prices and subsequent living conditions in the immediate vicinity for those whom do not earn six figure salaries.   The 88 Way, a highway traversing much of the Queens city's area and perimeter, runs through Athens from the south where it splits into separate lines following the Idlewood canals Idlewood and Beckenham streets respectively. The roads split and turn into steep climbs allowing access to numerous complexes and facilities located high above the ground like an additional upper city of sorts.   Numerous bridges cross the canals west into Idlewood and several marinas and docks may be found among the portions of athens which encompass the Bermuda Bay. Beach facilities, recreational boating ports and more expensive hotel and apartment complexes may be found along the southern beaches which always proves a densely populated region.

Guilds and Factions

Many gangs, factions and other such illicit organisations operate in and around the Athens region, such regions are ideal considering population density and ever-heightening underlying crime rates.   UnitOne: an illicit group of hackers, technicians and net-runners, run operations out of the regions many apartment complexes where many such technological loopholes and opportunities are present. Their activities range from tampering with city ISOS infrastructure to the manufacturing of 3d printed contraband such as untrackable firearms and various illicit hardwares.

Geography

Athens may be considered a somewhat coastal region given its proximity to Bermuda Bay and the Gold Coast channel, a body of water spanning the length of western queens separating the two cities. Several beaches dot the coastline though are hardly comparable to the coastlines of Beauclair or the Gold Coast. Athens is otherwise uninteresting geographically speaking with vast quantities of flat landscape perfectly suitable for what retail and development may yet be undertaken.

This is a really cool article, and I love the idea. The image does a lot to help me visualise this as a bustling, cyberpunk city, and I really liked the section around the city's crime groups. It may be practical to use the @link feature to link to some of the places mentioned in the article. I'd also like to know: How big is the city, and when was it built?

Aaand, I'm an idiot. Shouldn't have been referring to it as a city. Didn't notice that it was a district. Should have paid better attention.

Dude, I wasn't even intending for people to see I'm just dicking around and experimenting and all that. I write for me and I can't afford to subscribe to hide my stuff but hey I suppose I'll leave it all public. Appreciate your feedback though for real!!

I mean, this is absolutely to a standard for going public, and I'd love to see more of this. Not sure if you're on the discord, but they've announced that they are making an integrated system for getting feedback (As in a place to post articles specifically to get feedback). When that goes live, using that could really sharpen your writing skills.

I'm my own worst critic so the quality will always be abysmal in my eyes but I'll certainly be contributing to this world more as I'm really into the setting. Never expected anyone to notice me (I'm not trying to be though) so I'll be putting a lot more effort into making stuff more presentable. Thanks a lot my man.

Your balancing of cyberpunk aesthetics while crafting a unique feel to the district is quite inspiring. I like it!

If you have some time, I would much appreciate your feedback on my entry for Adventure April: Carbon Copy Paradise
