Cyrax
LK-4D4
Cyrax, born Thato Sikwane, was a product of a harsh reality. Growing up in war-torn Niger, he witnessed the brutalization of his village, an experience that forged an iron will within him. Taken in by the Zaki sub-clan of the Lin Kuei, he found a sense of belonging and purpose. His exceptional martial arts skills earned him rapid ascension through the ranks, culminating in a direct invitation to serve under Sekiro Toriyama. Thato, upon joining the Lin Kuei, was assigned the codename Cyrax. Sekiro, son of the Grandmaster, demanded that Cyrax remove his yellow garb, a symbol of his Zaki clan heritage. The color yellow, Sekiro explained, was a constant reminder of the Shirai Ryu, the Lin Kuei's sworn enemies. Cyrax, despite understanding the rationale, refused to comply. His defiance led to a brutal welcome from Sektor and his loyal followers, a stark welcome to the Lin Kuei's harsh realities. This act of defiance inadvertently forged alliances. Sub-Zero and Smoke, two members of the Lin Kuei with a more tempered approach, intervened to halt Sektor's brutal punishment. This unexpected display of solidarity marked the beginning of an unlikely camaraderie, offering Cyrax a glimmer of hope amidst the clan's cold efficiency.
However, the Lin Kuei's ambitious Cyber Initiative clashed with Cyrax's unwavering belief in humanity. He refused to be transformed into a mindless machine, a stance that ultimately led to his forced conversion. Betrayed by Sektor, Cyrax was abducted under the cloak of night and subjected to a horrific transformation. Against his will, he became LK-4D4, a prototype cyborg designed for cold efficiency. In a twisted act of mockery, Sektor ordered The Doctor to preserve Cyrax's yellow color, a final insult to the man he once was.
The transformation was a brutal blow, robbing him of his humanity and turning him into a weapon. His mission: hunt down Sub-Zero, a former Lin Kuei member who had rejected the cybernetic path. Failure resulted in severe damage, leaving him stranded in the unforgiving desert.
Rescued by Earthrealm Special Forces, Cyrax found a semblance of purpose. He joined their ranks, his cybernetic enhancements proving invaluable. But his time in Earthrealm was cut short when he was ambushed by Reptile, a reptilian creature from Outworld. The attack damaged his arm console, severing his link to Earthrealm.
With no other means to return home, Cyrax found himself entangled in a dangerous proposition. The vampiress Nitara offered him a chance to return to Earthrealm in exchange for retrieving an artifact from the molten depths of Outworld. It was a gamble, a desperate move by a man who had lost everything twice. But for Cyrax, the allure of returning home outweighed the risks.
Cyrax became a cyborg, more machine than man. After receiving heavy damage in his Mark II form, he wandered the desert in circles for years.
