The Old Empire

5.12 295 6c.

I recovered another Old Empire-era artifact from the ruins today. This one seems to be a sword made for practical combat use- it lacks the ornamental hilt elements that we have found on other sword fragments. I think this discovery could change our approach of this entire expedition, actually. We originally thought that the site may have been a place of worship, but now signs are pointing more towards a residence or some sort of opulent private building. Imagine, houses with this kind of ornamentation and wealth? I can only imagine how fine life was under the Old Empire.

History

Long before the count of Cycles began, almost the entirety of Morova was united under the banner of what is now known only as the Old Empire. Contemporary scholars are cursed with a lack of knowledge about that time, however, as to their estimates the Empire's unification lasted little longer than a single lifetime before it fell into disarray. The histories that do remain, however, point to a time of great prosperity (at least, for those who were well-off enough to be recording official histories). The origins and demise of the Old Empire are yet to be discovered, though historians from various modern empires like to theorize that it was their own homeland that led the charge of unification.

Territories

As far as scholars can tell, the Old Empire took up nearly every land of Morova. This is an impressive feat, as no modern empire has been able to achieve nearly as much success. Perhaps the Old Empire was the first of its kind to arise, and so had few opponents to stifle its growth.
