Morova

The world that is known

“Morova”, an old Fharyne word meaning “it is known”, is what the denizens of this setting use to refer to their world. It is fitting, as beyond this large cluster of islands, not even the most daring explorer or knowledgeable philosopher truly knows what there is. However, this is of little concern to the majority of the people who reside in Morova, as the harsh, diverse lands and constant geopolitical conflict force them to focus more on the tribulations of daily life.

Geography

There are many different landmasses that make up Morova, and all of them bring something unique in terms of geography. The southern lands such as Bentii, Ene, and Heilen sport rich forests and bustling warm water ports, whereas far to the north the lands of Stell, Fharyn, and Gemeris battle bitter winds and unforgiving stone. For a relatively small area (the total area of Morova is around 580,000 miles, and most of it is water), there is certainly a surprising amount of variety to the available climates and geographies.

Some of the most striking elements of Morova, however, lie not in its land but in its sea and sky: the ocean is a deep, clear blue, and its shimmering depths seem to expand ever onward. The people of Morova love and respect the sea, as they know it provides them with not only beauty but also food and transportation. With its majesty comes savagery, as the life-giving waters can at any time turn vengeful, frothing up into great waves that can destroy boats, settlements, and lives in their rage.

In addition to the sea, the sky is seen as one of the great natural beauties appreciated all across the many lands of Morova. Dawn and dusk in particular are frequent subjects of bards and poets, as they are both infamous for their riotous displays of color as the light from the sun and the two moons briefly encounter one another. Much like the sea, however, the sky's beauty cannot last forever, and it is often marred by stormy clouds and tempests that are almost enough to make people forget about the times when it is tranquil and bright.
