Jake Adder

Jake’s eyes snapped open in the same moment that the cell door was shut with an ominous whumph. The man before him wore a simple shirt tucked into loose trousers, and his light hair was thinning on top. Across his nose were perched spectacles that did nothing to mask the contempt in his eyes. As the jailer walked forward (and he was rather tall, Jake noted with some alarm), he set down a stool and sat so that he was eye-to-eye with the captive pirate.
“I’ll be brief: this cell is revolting and I would like to leave at the earliest convenience,” started the man in a calm voice, only to be cut off early by Jake.
“Oh absolutely- the accommodations are quite lacking and I don’t know about you but the waitstaff have left me in quite a bind,” he wiggled his restrained wrists to further the joke, but also to test the strength of the knots. If his gut was correct, and it often was, then he might need to stage an escape a bit earlier than intended. Of course, with only ropes holding him down, he hardly expected to break a sweat.

Jake is a strapping young lad, though a bit on the skinny side. He is unnervingly flexible and very dexterous, though this tragically does not translate to stealthiness.

Personal history

Jake Adder was born to a poor family in Gemeris, which belongs to the empire of Toren-Osea. He grew up in a port city on the western coast, very near to the Unclaimed Lands, and so he lived under the constant shadow and threat of pirates. He maintained this trepidation until the somewhat notorious pirate Nathanael St.Beth came to harbor in May of 296. The pirate had just rebuild his ship after a brush with death, and was boldly seeking out people to join his crew. Jake was repelled at first, but the promise of the money his family desperately needed eventually pushed him towards making himself known to St.Beth. The two men discovered that they had a good deal in common, including the universally unifying experience of being older siblings. Charmed by the roguish pirate, Jake pledged his service to the Lady Madeleine and its captain, who would soon become his closest friend.
