Cosmic Hierarchy

There are many different deities, gods, spirits and religions around them, but who is what precisely?

Chosen Ones

Chosen Ones are essentially the concept of a demigod, some being that was once or is part mortal until it was chosen to do or be something by a higher being. Some might have been adventurers once, who found greater powers, others might have been born from the union of a higher being and a mortal.

Spirits

Long before the rise of organised religions, the spirits were revered as the original gods. Their powers and influence fluctuate wildly, depending on many factors, including how many people believe them to have these powers, and how prominent their associated species is in the world.
Spirits are immortal and effectively indestructible, as they are more like a collection of energy than an actual creature. While they can be dissolved and thus seemingly be destroyed at the time, they do not actually cease to exist, but simply reform again after a while. The only way one could possibly remove one of them from existence is by removing the very idea of them from the minds of all things living in Mòrherinn, which would have fatal consequences for the balance of the world.

Deities

Deities, often just called gods as well, are powerful beings that can change a person's fate in the blink of an eye if they wished to do so. They do not necessarily follow the laws of nature or magic as people know them, and as such are often conceived as omnipotent. The truth however is far from that, deities can be killed if a deity of greater power decides to do so.
The main difference between these deities and the greater gods is that deities actually interact with the world and even visit the material plane from time to time, either in their true form or using a disguise.

Greater Gods

Very little is known about the greater gods as they do not interact with mortals directly. Some believe the deities are merely the champions of these greater gods, while others claim the greater gods aren't even real as there is no solid proof to their existence at all.
