Scope

The motivation behind building Morea

To provide a world for my players and to indulge in world building for myself. I wanted to recreate an old videogame that I enjoyed called Arcanum: of Magick Obscura and Technology. A world in conflict because magic and technology interfere with each other. People that yearn to the old ways of magic especially the magical races like Elves and the new factory cities come with the downside of menial labour and pollution.

The goal of the project

It's for playing a dnd 5e homebrew campaign.

Morea's Unique Selling point

There is a lot of dualism going on. There are 2 primal forces, magic and technology are opposing forces.   Moral ambiguity. There is no dark lord to fight, everyone has their own reasons and nobody is truly good or evil.   It's only a short time after a world shattering post-apocalyptic event and this means the population is still low and the survivors are fighting over resources.

Theme

Genre

It's a mix of high fantasy with magic and a steampunk side with bizarre technology and science. I envisioned it as the Golarion after Earthfall but one of the surviving nations managed to use it to spark an industrial revolution. We enter the world when civilization is in the process of recovering and has to answer the question on whether to build something new or go back to the old before the cataclysm.

Reader Experience

There is wonder, wanderlust and the need to experiment. There are going to be conflicts of ideology and inter party conflict as the story develops political strife, ideological based on religion and magic vs science and advancement of the world.

Reader Tone

The tone is somewhere in the middle. There is hardship on the frontier, squallor in the dense industrial poluted cities of the Empire and elitism in the kingdom of Therasia. The northern clans will be hostile against any magic user and distrustful of magical species.

Drama

There's conflict brewing between the Kingdom and the Empire. The Empire is encroaching on their lands and has claimed some of the Eastern islands as their own. Sabotage and terrorism attacks are sponsored by the Kingdom.
The town of Brightwater has been established and this rich wild land is open to settlers from the Empire! The South and East seems dangerous and needs to be explored by brave adventurers.
Pirates are plaguing the trade routes on the open seas between Olmerrec and the Empire.
An Orc kingdom is being established on a vulcanic island in the South West of Olmerrec and is abolitionist to Orc slavery and abuse.
