Varda Cindernest
Biography
Hailing from a distant, high-perched tribe of Aarakocra known as the Skykin of Hurn Talas, Varda Cindernest bears the title of Seeker—a rare and respected rank among her people. Seekers are trained from youth to travel across Mordonia, mapping the landscape, recording the spread of civilizations, and documenting magical sites, lost relics, and historic calamities. While many Seekers roam freely, Varda’s current path has brought her to Krog Nocrum, a city she initially believed held little of ancient value—until rumors began to stir. She arrived a month ago with the intention of cataloging crumbled swamp temples and recording faded mural fragments… but soon uncovered whispers of a sunken city, one strangely missing from local memory despite being referenced in histories across Mordonia. Now she suspects something far older, and possibly dangerous, lies forgotten beneath the muck—and she’s determined to find it. Varda is a striking Aarakocra, her features distinctly avian yet sharp with intellect and poise. Her plumage is cream with touches of rust-red along her wing-edges and crown feathers. Her beak is hooked and polished smooth, and her golden eyes glint with focus. She stands tall and calm, always with one wing-claw resting on her satchel or unfurling a scroll. Her clothes blend scholar and scout: a dark indigo coat with gold trim, reinforced traveling breeches, and a sky-blue sash bearing the braided cord of her Seeker order. She wears a scroll harness and carries several rolled maps and journals. A curved rope is always looped at her side, and a few well-used weapons—kept clean but unshowy—are tucked into hidden compartments across her gear. Most notably, she always carries a map in progress, marked with both known ruins and whispered possibilities. Varda is measured, inquisitive, and quietly daring. She speaks in concise, thoughtful sentences, preferring clarity over flourish. To many, she comes off as aloof or overly analytical—but those who work alongside her see a heart driven by awe and reverence for forgotten places. She approaches her role not with ego, but with a sense of stewardship—believing that to remember and record is to protect Mordonia from repeating its greatest mistakes. She will gladly trek through bog, tomb, or jungle if it means uncovering a new truth, and she is far more capable in battle than her scholarly demeanor might suggest. Though she travels alone, she is not lonely. She considers every story, every ruin, and every clue to be part of the greater tale she was born to witness.
