The Rot
In the beginning of Vitasphere, only Spirit and Life existed. They both were powerful and intricately linked forces that, in the beginning, grew exponentially side by side. Over time, the vitality and energy of living beings began to be disrupted when the desires of said beings became overwhelmed with energies of greed, despair, and malevolence. As the negative emotions/intentions grew stronger, they began manifesting into the two realms and spreading corrupted, twisted energy to the landscape and inhabitants it touched. It spread like cancer, distorting and rotting the landscape. Deciding to take action, the Paragons of Spirit and Life acted together to cut the too far gone parts of their regions and cast them below Life, imbuing a barrier woven of faith, strength, and protection to keep the rotting influence from spreading further in their regions and out of the realmspace entirely (as was their hope). As with all things, that did not last, and decay seeped into Mordia to be drawn upon as its own nightmarish power by those who cared not about its origin.
The former inhabitants of the Livinglands and Faithlands who were cast aside and left to fester in this decay without even an attempt to help them. The ones left to die in The Rot helped one another, precariously, seething with hatred for their former Paragon's lack of care, furthering the advancement of the decay. One of the right hand's of the Paragon Auriel , Regent Ryntharion, was actively in the Faithlands that were under attack by decay's infection when it was cut off from the rest of the realm. He had spent weeks upon weeks at the barrier, desperately trying to tear a way through or open a way to communicate, because surely his Paragon would never abandon him and his people to this fate. Surely, the realm with the most powerful healing abilities would not simply turn a blind eye to their own people.
Over time, those doubts turned to fact as the barrier never wavered. Those deep seated adoration, love, and loyalty to his realm turned insidious, calculating, hateful, and he buried his former title and name beneath his new one: The Patient King . He rallied his fellow forgotten of Spirit as well as the abandoned by Life denizens and under one united cause they worked together, answering to the Patient King as their figurehead. They worked tirelessly to get through any of the barriers, working to get a connection to Mordia and begin their plan. Years after years passed, the Rot continuing to grow, until one day a thread of decay struck out of their realm, away from the barrier, and went taut.
A connection was finally made.

History
Decay is a disgustingly starving force, eternally hungry for vitality in psychic and physical forms. It is a deceptive, patient hunter who does not falter once it locks onto its prey. Wielders of decay are shaped by their choice to use the putrid powers, regardless of intent, it does eat away at their sanity
