Taibhse (ti ee sha)
Keeper of the Cold Taibhse
Taibhse is an otherworldly figure, an embodiment of relentless winter and the Frost Prince’s eternal chill. As the Keeper of the Cold for the Court of Ice and Snow, they are a constant presence by the Frost Prince’s side, a silent shadow ensuring that the prince’s icy dominion remains unbroken.
Shrouded in flowing robes of pure white, Taibhse’s form is ethereal, as though their body is composed of frost and mist rather than flesh and bone. Their cloak, woven from threads of ice and snow, flows weightlessly behind them, and their hood is always drawn low, casting their face in deep shadow. No features can be seen beneath the hood—only an endless, frigid void that seems to draw the warmth from all who dare to look too closely.
The air around Taibhse is deathly cold, and their mere presence transforms their surroundings. Frost creeps along the ground in a widening radius, water freezes solid in an instant, and even the breath of the living crystallizes in the air. Snowflakes fall and swirl around them, carried by an invisible wind that whispers like mournful sighs. This aura of freezing power ensures that the Frost Prince need never thaw or feel the faintest hint of warmth.
Taibhse does not speak, for their voice, if they have one, is lost to the silence of winter. Instead, they communicate through their actions—an elegant tilt of the head, a hand raised in warning, or the sudden encroachment of deeper cold that serves as both message and deterrent. Their silence is unnerving, yet their loyalty to the Frost Prince is as steadfast as the unyielding ice they embody.
Taibhse’s origins are unknown even to most members of the Court of Ice and Snow. Some whisper that they are a manifestation of the Frost Prince's icy heart. Others say that Taibhse is a fragment of winter itself, a manifestation of the Frost Prince’s power given form. Whatever the truth, Taibhse is more force than individual, an implacable reminder of the Court’s dominion over cold and death.
Despite their spectral nature, Taibhse is not without purpose or emotion. They seem to carry a solemn duty in their every movement, their devotion to the Frost Prince absolute. They ensure that no warmth or weakness can penetrate his icy heart, a guardian as much of his power as of his being.
They can summon blizzards with a gesture, turn rivers to frozen plains with a step, and encase enemies in ice with an unfeeling touch. Yet they rarely take direct action, for their mere presence is often enough to deter even the bravest foes.
Taibhse is a living storm of frost and silence, a figure which embodies the eternal cold of winter, unyielding and eternal, their loyalty as frozen and unbreakable as the ice they command.
