Session 73: Chasing the White Rabbit
General Summary
Illevaere had stepped aside with the Tiefling Wererat, Malrius, at his request. Since Illevaere seemed to be trafficking in potentially toxically fatal substances, he wanted to know if they had any snake venom. Illevaere told him that they did not, that they tend to focus more on mushrooms and herbs. The pair continued to talk, and Illevaere discovered that Malrius seemed not to like the werewolves, fearing that their arrival would draw unnecessary attention to him and his brother. He warned Illevaere to tell Levi not to go on the hunt later if they wanted to protect their friend. They then returned to the fire.
Meanwhile, Cailean took a small walk with Levi to talk to him. He told Levi that the hunt was to hold everyone over, but they were planning on having "real fun" tomorrow. The Queen will be at the fair to reclaim the title of monarch from King Pok and Cailean said that they planned on having a free for all and to go wild, hunting down any that they wish. He also asked Levi what he knew about the Calling since Levi was not on Llywelyn. When Levi told him that he did not know much, Cailean told him more of what to expect.
Cailean told Levi that Ulfr is calling the wolves together. He has a means of summoning The Wild Hunt, but plans on having all of the werewolves to bathe in a Moonwell before summoning the Hunt. Then, when they appear, Ulfr intends on challenging the alpha of the hunting pack and taking control of the hunt. The other wolves will join them, aided by the waters of the Moonwell, and they will lead the Hunt through the isles and through the cities, cutting down and infecting anyone who they come across. He tells Levi that he should leave his friends behind as they will likely be cut down once the Hunt is taken over. He lets Levi know that the Moonwell is in the Heathmoors, near the border of the Tallhyde Marsh. The general area is familiar to Levi being from the town of Hosfa, which is near the Heathmoors.
Everyone returned to the fire and Illevaere prepared drinks for anyone who was interested in taking them. Callum seemed to issue a challenge to Levi, daring him to ingest the drink if he would. Altogether, six people offered to drink--Callum, Naidh, Malrius, Levi, Nortle, and Illevaere. All of the drinks were brewed with psychodelic mushrooms, but three of the drinks were laced with wolfsbane--toxic to everyone, but especially so for werewolves. The drinks were laced at random and not even Illevaere knew which brews were laced with wolfsbane.
Illevaere saw that Caena had blessed them with one of the poisoned brews, tasting the poison as their body quickly transformed it. Naimh became violently ill, having taken one of the laced brews. Callum started to convulse and have a hard seizure, very quickly dying from the poison.
Cailean was angered, but knew that Illevaere had warned everyone ahead of time of the dangers. Malrius went and got Mr. Goety to let him know. Mr. Goety was rather unfased and told the group that people die and if went around questioning every little thing about his employees, then he wouldn't have any employees. Myohn was upset at the poisoning, but Mr. Goety eased his anxiety by telling him that he would get them a second booking at the stage. Malrius and Mr. Goety took Callum's body away.
Everyone who had the tea was under the influence of psychodelics and in order to let off steam, Cailean suggested that they begin the hunt now. Levi was caught in accepting, though the party followed at a discrete distance with Pass Without Trace cast upon them and they followed without being detected.
Levi bluffed to "remain" in his human form, stating that the tea was affecting him strongly. Cailean did not mind and they approached the area where the six victims were being held. Illevaere arrived a little earlier in the form of an owl and noticed that Nephmir, Malrius' younger brother was fleeing the cabin ahead across the stream.
The runners were set free with a headstart and the group begin to rush after them. The party arrived to quickly try to intercept the runners. There was a stream with a bridge that the runners rushed across. As the party attacked, some of the lycanthropes remained behind while Cailean barked to the others to go after the runners so that no one escapes and can identify them. Cailean was felled by the party, but Ciorstag still commanded the remaining lycanthropes. He ordered Levi to pursue the victims rushing into the woods, while he went for the ones that fled to the cabin. Even though Levi attacked Ciorstag, he still continued to follow Cailean's last order--to make sure that none of the people escaped.
Ciorstag felled one of the victims, then rushed to get the ones in the cabin. Levi chased after them and as he approached the window, he smelled incense made of wolfsbane being burned, but as he approached to follow Ciorstag through the window, he halted--not having been invited into the cabin. Furious, Levi turned and went after the others as Esme leapt across the stream to charge Myohn.
