Session 47: Settling a Grudge
General Summary
The party waited a distance away from the cave’s entrance, assessing what to do. Having a keen sense and natural affinity to its lair, the Dragon stepping out, sniffing the air, but not immediately sensing the party. A moment later, the Frost Giant, Fulskorri, stepped out, placing a calming hand on the Dragon’s neck as he looked around.
Not immediately seeing anything, they turned to step back inside, but just before they left, the dragon saw Bolvaic in the distance and they turned to fight the party.
Bolvaic signaled with the Horn of the Hunt, giving everyone courage enough to resist the innate dragon fear, then immediately charged toward Fulskorri. As Bolvaic flew into a rage, he was not accompanied by the group of spectral dwarven ancestors that typically appeared when he raged. Rather a single spectral Dwarf appeared, clearer and more formed than most of the other dwarven ancestors. It was the spectral form of Bolvaic’s grandfather who first bore the grudge in Bolvaic’s maul.
The dragon took to the air, breathing frost and ice at the party and attacking from a distance as the casters and ranged attackers did what they could to injure it. The barbarians, meanwhile, focused their fight on the Frost Giant, Fulskorri.
Ilbryen hit the dragon with a bolt of magic that injured it significantly and the dragon swooped down and took out Ilbryen. Bolvaic was able to use Grudgetaker to bring down Fulskorri with a final blow, and then the party focused on the White Dragon. By the end of the battle, Bolvaic and Tiarjead had each fallen and Tertius was able to get the final blow on the dragon with his bow. Those who had fallen were revived at the end of the battle and the party entered the cave. There they saw the dragon’s hoard of treasures encased behind a thick wall of ice. Illevaere used a flaming sphere to melt the ice and the party retrieved most everything that was encased in ice.
