Caer Hughloch

Caer Hughloch, the Daoine port capital of the Kingdom of Monaghan, is a thriving city perched on the western coast of the Isle of Glanmoor, ruled by Petty King Fintan Rathais. The city is dominated by its imposing keep, which stands atop a rocky cliff overlooking the waters of the Foaming Sea. The keep, with its high wooden palisade ending in a sturdy stone gatehouse, serves as a symbol of the kingdom's strength and protection. From this vantage point, it offers a commanding view of the common fields, the bustling city below, and the endless stretch of the sea beyond.   Below the keep lies a large, well-kept village green, a gathering place for the city's people. At the heart of the green is a druid's grove, a sacred space encircled by ancient, towering oak trees. This grove is a focal point of Caer Hughloch's spiritual life, where druids perform rituals to honor the Old Gods, particularly Sucellus, god of harvest and agriculture. The grove is a place of peace and reflection, with many townsfolk and travelers visiting it to seek the wisdom of the druids or to pay respects to the gods.   The city's position as a major port makes it a center of trade and commerce, with bustling markets filled with goods from across the Moontide Isles. The harbor is always alive with activity, as ships bring in supplies and export the Kingdom of Monaghan’s fine goods, including textiles, fish, and lumber from the nearby Beinn Monaghan Mountains to the east. The mountains themselves form a natural border, providing resources for the kingdom while also being home to hidden trails and ancient ruins that draw adventurers and traders alike.   Caer Hughloch is a city where tradition meets the needs of a thriving economy. The people maintain a deep connection to the natural world, particularly through their reverence for the Old Gods, which is most evident in the central druidic grove. Yet, the city’s port and market districts are lively and cosmopolitan, reflecting the importance of Caer Hughloch as a gateway to the wider world.   Petty King Fintan Rathais rules with a focus on maintaining the balance between the city’s prosperity and its spiritual heritage. His keep, overlooking both the fields and the sea, serves as a reminder of the kingdom's strength and the unbroken connection between the land, its people, and the gods they honor.
