The Ashen Creed

The Ashen Creed is a zealous order of assassins sworn to hunt and eradicate Hellions, cultists, and those who consort with The Corruption. They believe that all infernal beings are a blight upon creation, and only through steel, fire, and holy sacrifice can the world be purified. Their assassins, known as Ashwalkers, anoint themselves with sacred ashes before each mission, symbolizing their devotion to cleansing corruption at any cost. Feared by Hellions and revered by those who understand their purpose, the Creed operates from the shadows, striking down their prey before the darkness can spread.

Structure

At the head of the Creed is the Exalted Pyre, a spiritual leader whose visions guide the order’s hunts. Beneath them, the Ashwalkers are guided by the The Emberborn, who leads a squad of Ashwalkers by orders given by the Pyre. Each Ashwalker bears a mark known as the Scorched Brand, a sigil burned into their flesh through divine fire, binding their soul to the mission of the Creed. Experienced Emberborn are covered in the marks of these brands, covering a vast amount of their body.

Culture

The Ashen Creed is as much a faith as it is an order of assassins, and every member is devoted to their sacred duty above all else. They are a hidden sect of the Followers of All Fate, who believe they are chosen by The Fates in order to help keep the order to the world. Rituals of purification, fasting, and meditation over sacred flames are common, reinforcing their belief that they are instruments of divine will. Though they are relentless and unyielding, some among them question whether their war against Hellions is truly righteous—or if their own zeal has made them something monstrous in turn.

Public Agenda

To most of the world, the Ashen Creed is an enigmatic order, appearing only when the touch of The Corruption threatens to consume a land. Many rulers seek their aid in secret, knowing that conventional armies and mages are ill-equipped to deal with the horrors they hunt. While some see them as saviors, others fear them as fanatics who would burn entire villages if even a whisper of corruption lingers there. Regardless of the world's perception, the Creed does not falter, for they believe that their mission is the will of the divine—and that only when the last of the Hellions is slain will they finally rest in the ashes they leave behind
