Tiskan Heartlands

The Tiskan Heartlands are a frozen wasteland in Kiria, scarred from the many battle that were had here during The Warping. The Heartlands are located to the north of the Eastern Steppes, east of the Kaladan Expanse, and south of the Rimneau Ice Fields.

Geography

The Heartlands are comprised of harsh tundra and ice. Small clusters of civilization are scattered throughout, tending to be found near the more hospitable costal regions.

Ankanukapalu

The largest settlement and "capital" of the Heartlands and home of the Heart Chief. This area is considered neutral ground between all of the tribes and is a place of trade between the tribes as well as between outsiders.

Devil's Throat

A massive sinkhole avoided by all the clans.

The Grave-Shards

A series of frozen over ruins in the northern reaches of the Massak Peninsula.

Massak Peninsula

The northern most peninsula of the Heartlands.

Arm of Nutara

The southern most peninsula of the Heartlands.

Nuujkaputi

A whaling village on the western edge of the Heartlands.

Oleran Reserve

A monastary and repository of knowledge in the center of the Arm of Nutara.

The Rimelochs

A region of permenantly frozen lakes in the western edge of the Arm of Nutara

Silver Scar

A long ravine of exposed silver veins that runs across the Massak Peninsula. The region is the sacred homeland of the Silver Scar Tribe.

Environment

The Heartlands are brutally cold, with temperatures rairly rising above freezing even in the heat of summer. This extreme cold is caused by a magical phenomenon known as the Rimneau.

Society

The Heartlands are home to a series of tribes known as the Tiskan Tribes.

Politics

For the most part the tribes are self governing, but all tribes adhere to the will of the Heart Chief to resolve conflicts amongst the tribes. The Heart Chief is the highest authority amongst the tribes and is chosen through a test of endurance and vitality known as the Sanganik. At any point the current Heart Chief can be challenged by another tribe member, and if the new member beats the current Heart Chief they become the new Heart Chief.

Culture

Life in the heartlands revolves around the tribe. Each tribe is led by a single chief, who is supported by a number of seekers. A seeker is a shaman like religious leader for a tribe as well as an intermediate between the tribe and the Atkalik, the Wild Spirits.
