Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Most Sheikah are completely fluent in modern Hylian, but those living in Kakariko Village would typically speak "ancient" Hylian, which is still alive and well in their tiny pocket of the world (non-Sheikah scholars of ancient Hylian lose their minds when they encounter modern Sheikah slang).

Culture and cultural heritage

The Sheikah have great respect for tradition, and for those living in Kakariko Village, life hasn't changed much in five hundred years. The traditional styles of dress are mixed frequently with modern Hylian styles, and all are fluent in the ancient Hylian language.

Shared customary codes and values

The Sheikah people believe themselves to be Hylia's chosen agents, chosen to protect the life of any of her mortal incarnations. Many of their small numbers go into Hyrule's secret service.

Average technological level

In the distant past, the Sheikah were the most technologically advanced of all the races of Hyrule, but as the kingdom went into decline, so to did their shadows. This ancient technology is the basis for most in the modern era by now, but the Sheikah are no more advanced than the rest of Hyrule. This does mean, however, that despite their fairly traditional way of life, they still use slates, power, and the Net.

Funerary and Memorial customs

The Kakariko Graveyard is the sacred resting place of all Sheikah. For a Sheikah not to be buried there would be considered a travesty, and so any Sheikah who pass away while abroad are brought home by any means.

Common Myths and Legends

The Sheikah share many myths and legends with the Hylians, but one of their own myths is the story of the first Sheikah, Impa, a woman who was first an ancient Hylian but was chosen by Hylia to guard her first mortal incarnation. The first Impa accompanied the very first Zelda, and to this day, "Impa" is a popular name for young girls whose parents hope they will become high-ranking members of the Royal Family' Guard.

Ideals

Gender Ideals

The Sheikah don't have much in the way of defined gender roles. In their eyes, all are born with their own mission from Hylia, and to constrict one half of their population would weaken their ability to fully serve their goddess. Most Sheikah find the notion that men would be more likely to train for combat and women more likely to stay at home in the village foreign and absurd.
