Nezuphe Behpulold Character in Mythrite | World Anvil

Nezuphe Behpulold

Nezuphe (Nez) Behpulold is a human priest of Gond from the Upper City of Baldur’s Gate. She grew up in a middle-class family, the only child of two prominent tutors to nobility. When Nez was young, her parents often took her to the nearby Hall of Wonders museum, which she visited often to clear her mind and marvel at the accomplishments of the human species. When she turned twelve, her parents allowed her to become an acolyte of the High House of Wonders. The priests began to train her in the holy rites and scriptures of Gond and even allowed her to unmake and rebuild the inventions in the museum. When she turned eighteen, she chose to enter the seminary instead of becoming a tutor like her parents. This was briefly a matter of contention between Nez and her parents, but they soon realized she’d found her calling.   Though Nez was happy to dress like the local craftswomen when learning from them, she much preferred to wear the apron, shirt, and trousers of a craftsman when tinkering in the museum, and felt the saffron cassock worn by the male seminarians suited her tall, square frame better than the dresses worn by the women. She also cut her hair and slicked it back to look more like the images of Gond she’d admired in the museum. The accomplishments of humanity are contributed equally by men and women, she reasoned, and she felt that being less attached to gender would make her more approachable to the faithful of all genders.   When she finished seminary at twenty-four, Nez’s mentor encouraged her to take on the traditional Gondar role of an itinerant priest. She was reluctant to leave the comfort of the seminary but finally agreed. Mythrite is the first stop on her spiritual journey. She generally finds the town underwhelming, and its people lacking the intellectual variety of the High House of Wonders and Baldur’s Gate in general. Though she tries to suppress this inclination, she does a poor job of it, causing her to appear haughty to most citizens of Mythrite, especially to those of non-human species. The communal living of The Halberd, however, feels familiar to her, and she tries to get along with her neighbors.   She wears her cassock only when leading daily prayers or festival services, though she wears the crimson stole of her order over her standard outfit of a linen shirt and trousers most days. She advises the faithful when they ask, but she spends most of her time exploring the city and its environs, including occasional trips to the mines. She’s fascinated by the innovation of the people of Mythrite, especially the dwarves. There’s no one in Mythrite she would consider a close friend, except maybe Suri Fairwood, but it’s hard to tell with Suri.   Created by Matthew LaWall-Shane
