Telton Settlement in Mithra | World Anvil

Telton

Telton is a large town in the southern part of The Hearthland Republic. It is mostly known for its export of Telstone, from which the town gets his name. It houses many of the workers that work in the surrounding quarries, warehouses, or stonecutting factories.

Geography

Telton lays on the side of a hill next to the river Tella. The river connects the town to the port of Sharqin, one of the largest ports in the republic and one of the main distributors of Telton's Telstone. A good road network connects Telton to both the nearby quarries and other cities and villages in the surrounding area. The quarries are all mostly within walking distance, making it easy for the workers to live in Telton.

Stonecutting

Telton is mostly known for its large Telstone export. The stones get mined in the surrounding quarries and then get transported to Telton where they get cut even further, smoothed out, and shaped. But before any of that happens, the stones will first be refined. Unrefined stones stink like a dragon's den, for they have small veins of sulfur running through them. These are not only smelly, but they also make the raw stone, unfit for large construction. Stones can crack over these veins if they have to support a heavy load. This is why the stone first has to be refined. To do this, the stone will be transported to one of the refinery houses that the city has. Here it will be loaded into a bath of a few ingredients and substances that make the sulfur inside turn into a glue-like substance. The stone is then baked in one of the massive ovens at quite a low temprature. The glue-like substance will then turn hard as stone and actually be the stronger part of the stone. Attempts have been made to make a whole stone out of sulfur, but none have succeeded yet.
