Discovery
Mithril was actually first discovered by the beastmen who loved its taste. Mithril would be used as chewing toys for beastmen for a couple of centuries before they discovered that people were starting to become sick because of it.
It wasn't before another couple centuries that the elves then rediscovered it multiple millennia ago.
Everyday use
Outside of the elven community mithril is something that the average man would never see in his lifetime.
For elfs it's used for small things like cuttlery and accessories.
Cultural Significance and Usage
In human culture a mithril sword is given to that generations hero.
In elven culture a mithril dagger is given to newly weds.
Industrial Use
Mithril is used in the making of the royal metal Golden mithril.
Refinement
Mithril is a very hard material to refine, only the elves know how to refine it not even the dwarves know how to do it.
Distribution
Trade & Market
Mithril is only sold by elves but only a small amount. Mithril is a luxury item for the world outside of elven forests, and elves want to keep it that way. All elven kingdoms have agreed to limit the sale of mithril ouside of their own territories.
Storage
Mithril can be store anywhere except for areas with an extreme amount of mana like Dungeons and Extreme magic zones. If mithril is exposed to excessive amounts of mana it can heat up and explode.
Law & Regulation
All elven kingdoms have put a regulation on the sale of mithril to keep it as a luxury item.
