Society of Seekers

The Society of Seekers (often referred to simply as Seekers) is a unique organization, both within the Republic of Emirr, and across Mistburn itself. While nominally a branch of the Republic's military, members of the Society are military in name only. Even the moniker Society of Seekers establishes its rather non-military nature. At best, most people who know anything about Seekers consider it a paramilitary organization.
The Society of Seekers have two primary operational mandates.

• Exploration and Discovery: The Seekers' are the Republic's primary tool for piercing the mist. Teams of men and women scour the world searching for ruins of the time before Mist Fall. These teams will investigate even the most tenuous rumors in hopes of coming a critical clue to the past. Unlike most people, ruined cities, underground facilities and isolated structures are actively sought out and their secrets pulled kicking and screaming out of the darkness.
• Special Operators: Seekers are sometimes tasked to undertake special operation that the Vanguard is not really designed to undertake. Some of these operations are relatively mundane, such as escorting a VIP into territories beyond the normal operating range of the Vanguard. Others are more covert in nature, ranging in nature from raw intelligence gathering to wet work.

Like the Vanguard, the ranks of the Seekers are filled purely with volunteers. Most have been sponsored by an existing member of the Society, and often serve within the same team.
Members of the Society of Seekers do not answer to the normal military chain-of-command. Unless they have been specifically tasked as a special operator, a designation that is always temporary, they are free to operate and explore as they may wish. The upper echelons of the Society might select a team to investigate something specific, but exactly how they approach the task, and how they act upon any information gleaned, is left to the discretion of the team. The only caveat is that they submit any TechRelic discoveries to the Silver Spire for analysis, should it be deemed appropriate.
