Cicadas

A species of insect that controls the temperature, created by Merthicz to make up for the fact she messed up the laws of physics to give her daughter the perfect world around the Sun.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

After cicadas dig up to the surface they start the hunt to mate. They don't all appear at once, but those that do pop up are ready to mate bring Winter to an end. Summer time hits when all the cicadas have dug up to the surface. They use the tymbal organ to attract mates. After finding a partner, they also use it to signal to others they want to be left alone to mate. It's not as strong as the mating calls, thus bringing in Fall.

Ecology and Habitats

They like the warmer climates, but cannot live in below 0 degree weather.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Nymphs eat from tree roots. As adults they eat the fluids of young tree twigs and shrubs.

Biological Cycle

They start out as eggs, and hatch into nymphs who bury themselves in the ground. By the time they emerge from the ground they're adult cicadas.

They live all over aside for Thari and Nuiri.

Average Intelligence

They're very smart. Connected together through a hivemind, they know how to disperse themselves, and know exactly when to hatch, and when to mate.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

They have the capabilities to produce heat long range made through the tymbal organ. The more cicadas there are in an area, and the louder they get, the hotter it gets for a longer distance.
