Session 99 - Nov 11, 2021 Report
General Summary
1305 - 2nd Moon of Summer (Fisen) 21st Day
- The party arrives at Tanglewood main square, without elephant and all dressed in traveling clothes. Roth gives the letter of introduction to Grandmother Wilson, who is surprised the Barony has a new lord, which they have not had a Baron in living memory, so Grandmother Wilson is remarkable flustered at the paperwork.
- G. Wilson introduces Grandmother Garett and Grandmother Hardenbrook, who are representing the 3 main large families in the area. They also run the public house. G Wilson explains about the manor house, then invites the party into have dinner, before showing them the manor house. Olly is sent to the manor house early to chase away pigeons in the roof. G Wilson fills in the map for Alethra and Roth of the areas around Tanglewood. Roth hears a slight change in her tone and detects an omission about the forest NE of the Garrett holdings. Roth then sends Olly to investigate that part of the forest.
- During dinner Roth shows G Wilson the minor image of the elephant and arrange for a large celebration the next evening in the town square. Roth pays 5 gold for it, and Merry makes a comment about wrecking the economy.
- The party goes to the 2 story stone manor house, which has a thatched roof, a few patches need repair. The stone gate around the house encloses about half an acre, which has a large wrought iron gate in the front (hinge slightly off and will need repairs), and the front double doors are very grand. The main level has a large meeting room, and then a kitchen, small private dining room and a library that holds all the records. G Wilson has a key to the records room, which holds all the information from the census and production.
- The party then hears about the manor house and several unseen servants are summoned to clean the place. Olly looks around the forest and finds a clearing. Due to a very high perception check, she finds a Fairy Gate in the woods, likely a portal to the Feywilde. Olly does fly through the gate from both sides, but it does not teleport her anywhere. She is then recalled to the manor house and enjoys some time exploring the attic.
- Party long rests under the dome in the main hall on bed rolls.
- Party wakes up early, with Roth and Alethra going through the records in the library. Roth mentions a gift for those who were married in the community as a gift from him, so Merry thinks she should go buy some goats, as that would be a nice gift to a new couple, and goes off to find goat. Roth and Alethra then go through the last few years of notes, seeing marriages tend to take place when a cleric gets around, the crops are pretty standard, and could be sold to Roth's brewery interests. Nothing stands out as off or missing in the books.
- Roth send an invisible Olly with Merry to get goats in case of trouble, and Olly promises not to fireball anything unless Merry and Roth agree it needs to be done.
- Merry goes into town, picking up 6 large ish rocks along the way. She creates 6 tiny servants and animates her doll. Merry sees a small child outside looking at her. The small rock creatures keep the child safe, while the doll tries to flag down the parent. Chaos ensues. She then learns Jared sells goats, and the doll gets directions, then marches with the 6 rock creatures to the farm. The general store keeper gave the directions and is confused. Merry gets to the farm, with the doll being the main source of interaction. Merry buys 5 female and 4 male kids and 4 male and 7 female adult goats, totaling 17 gold. She then uses the 6 stone creatures to parade the goats through town back to the manor house. The doll is riding the lead goat with a stick and Merry is following behind, herding and playing pan pipes.
- Roth hears the panpipes and sees all the goats on parade and mentions to Alethra that they will need to fence in some property.
- Grandma Wilson comes by with Ian the thatcher to fix the roof. Ian is paid 10 gold to fix the roof on the manor house, and the rock people keep the goats away from the thatch. Ian should be done by the end of the day.
- G Wilson came to help with the cleaning of the house, as well as two of her nieces, the other two Grandmothers are at the public house preparing food for the evening banquet. Two unseen servants go to the barn to start working on cleaning it up.
- The two nieces go upstairs to work on cleaning up, just getting the areas the unseen servants missed.
- Roth asks G Wilson to come to the dining room with Merry and Alethra. He mentions buying the grains outside of his percentage as items to be used in the beer company that is part owner. He also gives her the sending stone, which the elders will all be made aware of, and can use to contact him in case of emergency or major issue. G Wilson then meets Olly, who will help with the grain transportation until the roads are fixed and will also be a messenger in case Roth is away. Roth then speaks through Olly, who was not prepared. Olly is delighted, as she thinks that she will start smuggling in a larger scale. Merry congratulates her on the new venture into the world of criminal workings.
- G Wilson is asked about the fairy gate, which is a term unfamiliar to her, she just calls it the arch. No one is allowed in the forest at night around full moons and on the solstices. G Wilson was going to tell Roth, but she was not sure how to bring it up. She mentions that the farmers usually leave out milk and honey in a stone bowl every full moon. The party agrees that she is doing the right thing, and to keep people away is a good idea. The party may go through the gate at some point and try to broker a peace or good will, but that will have to wait until they are done with their current project.
- Roth then tell G Wilson about the plan to bring in a druid to fix the road to town and enlarge the cellar. As well as the plan to bring in a owl bear to live in the manor house and patrol the woods at night. She is unsure on how that will work, but is willing to work with the party to make sure that no one is surprised or hurt by the owl bear.
- G Wilson suggests they hire a housekeeper to keep the house clean and to take care of the goats. She suggests Sybil, who the party can meet the next morning. She also mentions Roth may have to bless a marriage or two, now that he is the official in residence. Roth mentions that he would like G Wilson on continue keeping the records, and he will set up a small cash fund to deal with any issues which he is gone.
- G Wilson goes to help her nieces clean the kitchen and main hall to get ready for any official business that needs to happen the next day. The finish more quickly then expected due the unseen servants getting a head start. The house needs 5 mattresses, 5 bed linens, 4 curtains, and 6 towels. Everything but the mattresses can be bought from the general store for 18 gold. The upstairs is now ready to be lived in, as well as the kitchens can be used to cook. The smaller servant quarters over the barn are mostly clean by the end of the day, but no one is set to live in them.
- Roth messages Katrina on good ways to perform or bless a marriage. Mainly she gave him key words, a good way to set up the ceremony, and to keep it short, it is about the couple.
- Costs for later items, 5 gold for a goat fences/pasture and 2 gold to create a lock on the outer gate and repair the hinge. The 5 mattresses are 5 gold and will be delivered in 2-3 days. Ian is done with the roof around dusk and everyone goes into the main square to enjoy the banquet.
- Roth plays host, providing food and drink, have a brief meeting with the three grandmothers and Grandfather Steelmark, who is ill. The teiflings provide music and Ari dances. Everyone is starting to meet Roth and is pleased with the chance to have a party. Alethra wears a nice dress and enjoys the bon fire and food. Ari is dressed to the nines and makes quite an impression.
