Session 98 - Oct 28th, 2021 Report
General Summary
1305 - 2nd Moon of Summer (Fislar) 18th Day
- Merry heads out to the docks and notices that the salt water taffy she left for the scared dock child is gone, and then she start the surveillance of the Salty Puffin. She is able to get a good idea of who is crew and the order of rank.
- Ari, Alethra, and Roth, head to see Korfel at the Voodoo Doll, and Korfel explains about flying brooms and the various options he has that he has made before and the benefits of each. Alethra goes for the basic plus model, 425 gold and will be done 3rd month of summer day 5. Roth gets the mid-level broom with slightly better seat, thicker foot holds and a basket for Olly. who thinks she wants her own broom, but is convinced that the basket will be better for her. The cost will be 465 gold and be ready the 21st of the 3rd moon of summer.
- Roth then buys a sending stone (1 casting every 2 days), as well as the scroll of Magic Mouth, some paper and ink for his spell book and enough jade to cast Magic Mouth 5 times.
- Ari goes to Nim and gets a quote for about a week and 155 gold to create the clockwork flower with the large piece of red glass created. Ari puts a down payment on the work and will send confirmation and the rest of the money the next day.
- Roth then heads to the Opal Moon, and speaks with Veronika, the dwarf owner, and pays for the signet ring for his station of office, which he will bring the official seal the 19th, and he pre-paid 50 gold for the ring. It will be ready the morning of the 20th.
- Veronika invites the party to the Gold Room on the 28th of the month to have a special 6 course mushroom tasting menu. Roth accepts on behalf of everyone.
- Alethra works on the puzzle book all day, while Ari teaches her dance lessons and prepares party ideas for winter.
- Merry follows the new Cpt's wife as she gets off the boat and runs some errands around town, mainly grocery shopping and errands.
- Alethra send notes to Tristian and Alva about various spell and giant speaking items.
- There are two notes from Li at the house, one to Alethra and one to Roth. Li tells Roth to let me know if there are issues via magic and he will be there. Li's letter to Alethra is about his travels and how he is sorry he is not able to be there with her. She sends a reply back via the adventures guild and hopes for correspondence.
- During dinner the party hopes to narrow down the message which is said with Magic Mouth. Possible of 2 options, 1. We come in peace and we would like to talk, we are looking to purchase an owl bear. 2. We have an item we can use to understand you, that we want to use.
- Ari thinks of a way to create and sell a scroll of programmed illusion.
- Party rests and Merry goes out to play at The Secluded Garden (earns 14 gold)
- Alethra goes to meet with Tristan, pays him for the rock needed to cast the spell and arranges for him to cast the spell for the party into a ring on the 29th or 30th of the month. Since it is an 8 hour cast time, Alethra will send a runner when Gregory arrives with the ring to store the spell in. Tristian then aske Alethra out to dinner or lunch, she is unsure and will go out with him after they return from the giant trip.
- Alethra goes to the Opal Moon and gets 5 small brass trinkets for her bracelet, (7 gold) each with an elemental symbol (Earth, Wind, Fire, Water, and Metal).
- Ari sends note to Nim confirming the work and the rest of the money, teaches dance lessons.
- Merry goes to spy on the Salty Puffin, goes invisible and walks onboard trying to find the captains office. Merry finds Cpt. Smithfield in his office writing notes. After he goes to lunch, Merry tears a small page out of his journal and heads back to the house.
- Roth goes to the Duke's castle and signs all the paperwork with Ariannis present. He will owe 100g each year during the 1st moon of winter and the Barony owes him a 10% tithe of their production. Roth gets a triplicate form of the certificate of office as well as a letter of introduction to the elders of the town. He sees the seal he will need to get made into a ring. Based on the map he copies, it is 150 ish miles, which is 12-15 hours on Gertrude and 30-40 miles in the air.
- Roth gets a signet ring made, Roth on the top, seated ravens to the left and right, and raven wings extended at the bottom. The interior of the ring says Tanglewood estates and crossed swords covered in ivy.
- Ari goes out gambling while the rest of the party stays in, with Alethra working on her giant. Ari enjoys the cocktail party and plays some roulette, a new game and special board brought in for the occasion. She wins a small amount over the 5 hands they play. She talks to Annette about the mushroom canapés and other ideas about hosting a party during the winter court season.
- Alethra asks Merry and Ari what to do about Tristian's offer of dinner, and they talk about what she is looking for and Merry suggested that she ask Tristian for clarity before they share a meal out.
- Roth goes and meets with the brewers at a small bakery in the city. He tells Elise and Harper about the fact that he has rights to grain in a barony and that Roth will work with the new farmers to get Rye, Barley, Corn, and Wheat. The brewers give him and amounts they are looking for for the next brew, and Roth will see what he can do.
- Roth picks up his signet ring.
- Ari gets a far more mild romance novel for Alethra called Neighbor Over the Garden Wall, which she hopes will answer some romance questions in a more familiar setting.
- Alethra checks on the mushrooms in the basement to make sure they are growing well and there are no issues. Everything looks good, Alethra studies Giant some more.
- Merry attempts to forge a rendezvous note in Cpt. Smithfield's handwriting, but only has mediocre success. She does not attempt delivery, as the party leaves the next day to go to Tanglewood.
- Ari sends a note to her grandparents to request a large amount of elven wine for her winter party. She asked them to let her know when all the cases arrived and she will fetch it.
- Ari and Roth work on a way to show case the beer from his new brewery at the party as well.
- Judith packs 1-2 days of food for the party to take with them, and plans for them to be gone about a week. She will have breakfast sandwiches to go when they leave around 5 am.
- Party leaves with breakfast around 5 am. They head out the gate and are on the main path, when they bring out Gertrude. Ari kites for the first hour, then rides. Olly flies ahead and lets the party know of anything or anyone. The party travels to the main road cut off, and with Alethra and Roth on look out, they miss the second turn off, adding 2 hours to the trip.
- As they get into later afternoon and closer to Tanglewood, the road gets worse and more washed out. There seem to be many issues with the road which Gertrude just steps over but would cause travelers of a smaller size issue. Alethra marks the places on the map.
- As the party approaches, (around 8pm) they dismiss Gertrude and walk the last mile-ish to town. As they approach, Ari and Roth hear a young boy tell those in the main square about a large gray beast moving very fast. As the party hears that, they are spotted.
- An elderly women introduces herself as Grandmother Wilson and asks the party who they are.
