Session 96 - Sept 16, 2021 Report
General Summary
1305 - 2nd Moon of Summer (Ruanes, Ruanes, Rualar) 14th-16th Day
- Ari remembers that she needs to return the bracelet she borrowed to her mother, and she teleports off.
- Roth asks Gregory to do some research into the options for flying mounts, which are like the elephant, only able to be around for a longer amount of time, and not dismissed, more like Olly. The research may take awhile, and Gregory will get back to Roth when he has something to report.
- Gregory returns to his tower, and Judith confirms that the party will in town for about a week gathering research and trying to figure out how to get to the giants, what they know about giants, and what they can use to get an owl bear pet, if it is even at the giant's location.
- All 3 head to Korfel's to get the run down on magic items and spells which are able to be used to help in communication. Roth has the helm of comprehend language to understand the hear, but it cannot make people understand him. Korfel offers a spell of Tongues which will allow the person the spell is cast on to speak and understand those around them for 1 hour. They party buys a scroll for 500 g and gives it to Merry, who can cast it.
- The party then splits. Merry goes to the musician's shop and Alethra and Roth go to the Adventures Guild to see Annette.
- Merry goes looking for rumors and information on the mountains to the west, as well as anything about clouds. The owner of the shop realizes what Merry is up to and recommends that Merry not go wandering alone, as it would be almost certain death.
- Alethra and Roth go to the Adventures Guild and see Annette, who tells them most of the work involving giants would happen out of WaterHaven, a city to the north east of Benroth. Annette sends a message to Freya, the head of the adventures guild in that city via a sending stone. Annette lets the party know a group is leaving in about 2 and a half weeks to head into the giant area on a trade mission. Annette arranges for the 4 in the party to be hired on, and Freya will have all the details when the party arrives in Waterhaven.
- Roth and Alethra thank her, and are happy to have this group to travel with. Roth will also send a message to Annette if there is a change in plans and the group cannot escort the caravan out of Waterhaven.
- Merry then heads to the docks to listen to rumors. 1. Hears of a typhoon in the bay of songs, which is odd for this time of year. 2. The Captain of the Salty Puffin is having an affair with the wife of the 1st mate. 3. The Luxurious Lizard has some very large cargo being loaded and soon goes to Waterhaven. Merry spreads the news the typhoon was caused by the unhappiness of the God Dolphin. Merry then goes to find the Salty Puffin and only finds crew unloading.
- Roth goes to the Temple of the Raven Queen. He meets with Katrina and they share stories about the beholder fight and the dissection at the university. Roth then hears the story of how owl bears were "made" which Katrina shares and Roth translates to Olly. Katrina does not know much about giants, other than the cloud giants have some magic and stone giants are crafters. After a nice chat, Roth goes to find more information.
- Alethra goes to the University Bookstore. She speaks with Merlen, getting a book on beginner Giant (5g) and Mountain Civilizations (10g) which covers dwarves, giants, tabaxi, and Rocs/wyverns. She also gets a book on intermediate draconic (15g). Merlen tells about the magical mushroom that he bought which waved a lot then stopped and returned to a normal mushroom around dinner time.
- Merry waits outside the ship, seeing a fancy person board the ship and she turns into Mr. Steve Generic (who is inquiring about a boat charter) and is introduced to Mr Timothy Roberts, 1st mate. Merry then heads into the dock master's office to get a feel of the dock and tries to find Cpt Herald Smithfield with no luck.
- Roth goes to the Crocked Quill, seeing Vadalia, who has dyed the ends of her hair green for her birthday. She is delighted to see Roth and they trade info, with Vadalia going to try to find more information on the Tamer and Roth promising to get her the information in case someone with connections would like an owlbear at a later date. Vadalia will likely have some more sneaky work around court time of people wanting information for those at court. When Roth mentions Waterhaven, Vadalia tells him of a Green Grocery called the Hearty Tomato, which has a shop assistant, Evaline, who is a drop and messenger for the thieves guild if Roth needs anything while he is in town. They drink rum and chat about all things.
- Alethra heads to the library and speaks to Alva about getting books about giant, the language, any customs, any rules or society, etc. Alva tells her where to start looks and Alethra finds 3 promising books, 1 on the basics of the giant language (in common), 1 on the Underground stone work and construction on stone giant society (elven) and 1 on the floating cloud cities (in celestial) which Alethra is most interested in but cannot read. She will return the next day with the Helm of Comprehend language to read the book about cloud giant cities.
- Roth then goes to the docks to see what he can find. With 2 very high rolls he hears that Luxurious Lizard is going to Waterhave with giant bound cargo and the Captain is Sarah Crafter, who has long dark hair. He also hears that there is rumor of one of the docks being haunted, with a small spectral child singing and skipping right off the end of the docks.
- Alethra has an idea of how to get the giants to let them cast the tongues spell on them with a magical recording of someone speaking in giant. She goes to see Korfel to figure out how it could be done.
