Session 93 - August 5th, 2021 Report
General Summary
1305 - 2nd Moon of Summer (Ruaoth) 12th Day
- The group looks at the table, the duck and all the levers, as well as the final button at the end of the row labeled with the word "duck". After some discussion several levers are pulled and the "duck" button is pushed. After it completed its water journey, it ended in a nest, when a small minor illusion of the word "Winner" appeared over the button and the door to the next room opened.
- Alethra is the first one in the next room, with Ari, Merry and Roth following behind her. Alethra starts to move across the large wooden planks on the floor in a herringbone pattern, and Alethra tries to poke the floor planks near by, but does not notice the movement in one, and makes her Dex save, realizing that one of the planks was sinking as she put her weight on it. Ari just flew across the room and read the note above the door "Your Manners Mark You". Alethra then uses monk wall running to safely land in front of the exit door, reading the note. Roth asks Olly to test the planks and invisible Olly starts jumping on various bits of the floor, and Roth is then able to jump safely across with 1 almost misstep. Ari polietly knocks on the door, which opens. Alethra goes through and Roth holds the door open then Ari flies back, picks up Merry and the two fly through the door with Roth last through, closing it behind him.
- The next room is a huge stone room, easily 60 ft by 90 ft long. The ceiling appears to the 15 ft tall, with 6 tapestries of a ocean/sea theme decorating the wall. Both Ari and Roth notice that the ceiling seems to be a magical illusion. Olly is set up to explore, seeing that the tapestries on the bottom level have corresponding longer versions at the top, behind the illusion ceiling.
- Ari then gets down to floor level, slowly inching forward and trying to find any traps on the floor, while Olly and Roth try to puzzle out if the tapestries have any clues to the safe way across the room. As Ari gets 20 feet towards the opposite wall, she makes her save and is not affected by the Reverse Gravity spell, which seems to be a good thing. Ari then used a wand of detect magic to guide the group across the room, avoiding pockets of Reverse Gravity. In front of two large double door, which do not appear locked or trapped, the party stopped.
- Roth used mage hand to open the left door, seeing a relaxing room, with large fireplace, buffet table and domed covers over large platter, a full bar, and several couches with a small bookshelf.
- Roth then opens the other door and fully sees the room, which Roth and Merry recognize as similar to the last room of Mage Gregory's, the reception room. The group pulls various items from the platter, getting close to the requested items, and with the wand Ari discovers the alcohol bottles, platters, fire, and door are all magical. The groups has some goat of friendship.
- Roth remembers that in Gregory's room of rest, magical spells caused a wild magic surge, so Roth messages Gregory, letting him know they have arrived and that they have not found the wizard yet. Gregory is not sure about wild magic, but thinks lower level spells should be fine.
- Alethra practices Dragonic with a very chaotic Olly helping out, Ari casts identify on the door, determining that it is a door of portaling, taking the creature through the door to another door it is linked to. Roth then tries to learn all he can about the door, and the bards just relax.
- Merry casts the Dome via a ritual spell, and nothing unusual happens. The party takes a long rest inside the dome, with nothing unusual happening during any of the watches.
- The party wakes the next morning very well rested and enjoys their breakfast of choice from under the silver domes, which was delightful.
- Olly is sent through the door to the next space, a tall interior of a tower, with stairs climbing all the wall up around the wall, with at least 8 door visible, some still with door and some smashed and broken apart. Large chunks of stairs are missing, with pieces of stonework littered on the floor of the tower. There is a bright light coming from the ceiling, but not clear if it is daylight outside or a spell. After looking around Olly sees the arm of a statue a few levels up, from a doorway.
- Olly flies up and sees a statue of a shorter person in a robe. Olly is told to stay and watch the statue, but to let Roth know if she sees or hears anything to be send brought back.
- The party then makes a plan. Merry attunes to the Staff of Healing with can cast a spell to remove the petrification. Roth and Alethra ground up 100 g worth of diamonds and Ari started working on a plan to get Merry up to that level to cast the spell.
- Olly about 45 mins later heard a noise, like a big crash. Roth jumped into Olly's hearing and sight, but only heard a small part of the noise.
- After plans were made, Olly flew back through the door that Roth opened, and the group made the stealth plan. Ari and Merry flew up and Alethra and Roth covered them from the group, as Ari got about 15ft up, an eyeball flew around the corner from an upper doorway, and the boots failed, Ari and Merry fell to the ground, and the fight was about to begin.
