Session 92 - July 22nd, 2021 Report

General Summary

1305 - 2nd Moon of Summer (Ruaoth) 12th Day
  • Having gotten past the sand dunes, the party is now in an area of taller grasser, between knee and waist high. After some discussion and review of the how to reach the tower, Ari sees a path that water seems to drain down, and the party goes single file up the slight incline to the tower. Around 4:45 pm.
  • The group walks Roth, Arti, Merry and Alethra. Roth and Ari walk right past an illusion spell to keep people out, with the party being divided up into 2 groups. Roth and Ari are confused and keep moving forward, with Merry taking Alethra to the door via a dimension door spell. Since Merry and Alethra arrive first, Althrea tries to open the door, which is both unlocked and opens easily.
  • Those near the room see a small foyer with hooks for cloaks and coats and another door in the opposite wall. Since mage hand is holding the door open, several investigations are made (by doll tiny servant and Olly). Above the door on the opposite side is a challenge and way to return to if the challenges are too much.
  • The party then takes a short rest, and talks about what they experienced at the first wizard tower they ever went through, Gregory's and what they could expect. They then head into the foyer around 5:45 pm.
  • As Roth and Ari and Alethra take up positions in the corners waiting for the door behind them to close, Merry walks to try and open the other door, and the floor disappears, with Merry holding onto the door knob Alethra falling down about 15 ft, and Roth and Ari flying (Roth with cape and Ari with boots).
  • The room is 25 by 25 with a column in the center with the words "Names give power, Magic to control. What is broken, by naming it?" Alethra catches Merry as she falls, and Roth reads out loud. Ari then swoops down to read the inscription, as soon as she is below a level the ceiling reforms. As the party has been speaking, the statues in the 12 alcoves around the room begin to fire arrows.
  • Roth tries to stab the statue, only to find there is a barrier between his blade and the statue. Merry and Ari start casting Thunderwave and Shatter, with Alethra going to the top of the column to look for an answer. The party manages to take out most of the statues before Roth realizes the answer to the riddle. Olly yells out Silence in Draconic, but that did not work. Roth uses minor illusion to write out that they all must be silence, but Merry uses eldrich blast to kill the remaining statue, the room then fell silent for a moment, and a door to the next room opened.
  • They enter a room with 10 keyholes on the wall, and there are 3 keys already in keyholes, with 7 keys laying out on a table in from the the holes. They are set up as 8_ _ _ 1 _ _ _ _ 0. The party did not get the patter, but after trial and error solved the pattern as 8549176320 (the way the words would be written out in alphabetically order). Merry realized it as they were moving to the next room, and says the designer of the challenges is a dick.
  • Merry enters a long narrow room with 6 columns down the center, each one a small orb of a different color. At the end of the room is a door, flanked on either side by statues in long cloaks, each one with two outstretched hands. Above the door in large letters in the word "Balance". The colors on the columns from entrance to exit are Red, White, Blue, Green, Black, and Gold.
  • Merry goes and immediately picks up the red one, and Ari goes right for the blue one. Merry's red one seems to look like flames are starting to curl off the top, with Ari's blue one begins to form icy pattern. They first try to touch the two together to see what happens. When nothing does they put them in the statue to the left. The word Balance above the door begins to glow. Alethra pokes the green ball (bad smell and green smoke) and then the gold one (a small glow of warm light). Ari tries the white ball (lightening bolt) and black ball (small cloud of black smoke). The black and gold balls are put in the other set of hands, and the door opens.
  • Merry grabs the green ball and adds it to her bag of holding, while Ari does the same with the white one. Roth leaves Olly behind, and after the door closes, the test resets itself, with the ball no long being in the bags of holding. Olly grabs the red orb and Roth teleports her back to him, but she is no longer holding the red ball. She is very sad.
  • The next room is a long narrow room with a target at the end. There are many options in ranged weapons, and it seems like the party cannot pass a line in the floor. Roth takes a long bow and arrow provided, getting a perfect bulleye with a 27. The party then can walk past the line and gets to the door at the end, which is locked. Roth is easily able to unlock it with a set of lock picks.
  • The next room is a small series of mirrored rooms on all sides and the ceiling. Some walls are solid and some are not. Merry discovers a non-solid wall that leads to a small room with Mirror image, so there are now 4 Merry's dancing in a room. Merry sends out her doll with a note, and Ari runs into the hidden room. Alethra and Roth continue to look for a way out. Olly finds a mimic chest, and Roth and Alethra head in the opposite direction. Merry finds out about the mimic, and goes to tame it. Ari is in the small room of Mirror image and having a dance off. Roth and Alethra find the way out, going to the next room. Merry attempts to tame the mimic with food and getting it to follow her. She is unsuccessful. Ari attempts to help, and the mimic flees. She then gives up, as she cannot see the mimic. At this point it is vey foggy with low visibility. They wander around (making CON saves for poison) and eventually head out to meet up with Alethra and Roth. Roth has been translating for Alethra and Olly to have a chat. Olly was invisible when the tieflings arrived.
  • The party enters a room with a water table and a set of canals laid out. There seem to be a row of levers on the side of the table which connects to a small gate on the water table. Floating in one corner is a small wooden duck, and on the other side in a small wooden nest.
