Session 86 - April 15th, 2020 Report
General Summary
1305 - 1st Moon of Summer (Fisten) 20th Day
- After the dark mantle dissection, Alethra and Roth spoke to Magmabrew about what they saw, and then she curtsied to a human woman who approached, and Magmabrew called Archmage Mallary, the head of learned magic at the University, Magmabrew's boss.
- They also meet John Bentson, a wizard who specialized in magics of light and darkness. After the archmage and john leave. Julia chats with Alethra, Roth and Magmabrew, letting Alethra have a lower level library card, with the promise that she brings the paperwork the next day. Alethra is very excited and pleased to have this, and thanks Julia many times.
- Magmabrew and Alethra head off to meet the illustrator, Lise, who is the daughter of an illustrator/cartographer, and had been drawing for a long time. She gives Alethra some pointers on taking good illustrations, and about several of the items she drew for various wizards.
- Roth goes to join Gregory, who is speaking with a human and gnome (both men), who introduce themselves as Tristian (druid, 2nd assistant to Marisha) and Ivar (wizard studies underground flora/fauna). Alethra comes up, and Ivar and she discuss the bioluminescence moss, and they agree to meet the next day to look at one of her samples.
- Roth regales Tristian and Ivar with tales of the underground and the creatures/plants they encountered.
- After most of the group disperses, Magmabrew, Roth, and Alethra go and talk about the mini-mansion item that she makes, and give a rough time of about a year and 25-30k. If Roth helps, that time can be taken down, but unsure of the cost, as this is a new item for Magambrew. (4 bunkrooms, 1 master suit, 1 guest suit, 1 large common bathroom, dining room with 12 magical plates/2 meals a day, living/rec room)
- The group has breakfast, and Judith is told to expect Gregory for lunch.
- Ari tries to figure out a price point for the lessons she is thinking about giving.
- At breakfast, Olly pranks the Kabold's with her blue eggs, and as soon as they get moving, she will figure out where they are going and will fly ahead.
- A note is delivered from The Opal Moon, and Veronika is taking the party to dinner at The Gold Room on the 23rd.
- Alethera turns in her library card application and then goes to meet Ivar, where they work on discovering the properties of the fungus Alethra brought. After trying it on Whisker's, Ivar's cat familiar, they determine it is poisonous to ingest, and Althera is concerned about the cat's well being, as she has no idea what a familiar is.
- Ari reviews the applications for her dance school and checks on the application, being told it will take awhile. Ari leaves a note to Magmabrew asking about how to speed up the process, learning that Mage Gabriella Patrice is the person who usually does the interviews.
- Merry takes a wander in the woods looking for the perfect picnic spot.
- Roth goes to help Korfel make arrows to get them done faster.
- At lunch, the whole party eats with Gregory, and they have some wonderful conversation. Gregory confirms the spell to his tower with Ari, then he heads home.
- Ari mentions she is not sure that she wants to go fight the dragon, and the party makes it clear they are not going to make her, and start brainstorming alternatives and what they know so far.
- Olly tells Roth he found an area of construction, with 10-15 kobolds in the area, plus the 9 that have the stones on the way. Roth thinks about 25 total. There are 4 smaller huts, and a stone building, 40ft wide by 60 feet long. A small 20 ft area on the back of the building has a makeshift roof. Olly sees the dragon, it is black and about the size of the war elephant Gertrude. Maybe a little smaller.
- The ground in this area is slightly elevated above the swamp, in a clearing.
- Ari sends a message to her mother, asking for help at her temple, Death Ward Gear and things to fight a black dragon. Ari would have to go to the Elven kingdom where she studied to collect the items.
- Roth wants to send a message to the sphinx, but Merry is worried it will want something in trade for it's knowledge. Alethra really wants to visit a sphinx, so Merry relents. Roth uses a sending to ask about dragon "mutations" and if the sphinx needs any new books. The sphinx does not know anything about "mutation" dragons, and looks forward to the visit, asking for a book on draconic.
- Roth sends a runner to ask for a meeting with the Court Wizard at this convivence.
- Fenna messages Roth to confirm the tattoo on the 24th, Alethra confirms and is confused. They will meet at the Rolling Waves on the evening of the 24th.
- Roth tells the party about the "insurance policy" that he and Gregory worked out, and he is hopefully that he can open it up to everyone once the spell is confirmed working, it should run 3-4k gold.
- A runner is sent from the court, who seems to have been sent very quickly, with a message to join him in his tower for breakfast the next day.
- Alethra is confused about the cat Whiskers, and Ari pulls a goat from the bag, while Merry and Roth explain about familiars, and how they work. Alethra is much less worried about the cat after this conversation. Ari's goat then marches around the neighborhood attracting attention and prancing like a fancy horse.
- The party has a quiet afternoon, Ari playing with the goat, Alethra studying draconic and Merry reading/playing. Roth returns to Korfel to continue work on the arrows.
- The party heads to the Duke's Castle for breakfast. All dressed very well, expect Roth who uses a spell to appear in nice clothes. Breakfast is set for 6, and Arrianis welcomes the group to his tower, sorry that Li is out on a mission. He has a huge spread on the table, and the party sets down to eat.
