Session 72 - October 8, 2020 Report

General Summary

1305 - 3rd Moon of Spring (Fisen) 21st Day

• Midmorning the party starts up a very long series of switchbacks that takes them up the steepest part of the path they have seen so far. Since the path is since file, they walk Li, Roth, Alethra, Magmabrew, Ari and Scarlett.
• Li mentions that this is also a good ambush spot and recommends staying as close to the side of the cliff as possible to prevent being a larger target than possible.
• While walking Roth steps on a small rock, which creates a growth of spiky plants, and Magmabrew, Alethra, and Li all take damage while Roth figures out what just happened.
• Ari then activates her flying boats, and takes Magmabrew out of the plants. Li just jumps, as he is almost out of the plant. Ari then returns for Alethra, and after a not so great roll, manages to get her out, but Ari does not want to fly people out anymore.
• Ari then summons a small flame for Roth, who uses mage hand to create a small trail of oil which burns a path of spiky plants away.
• Roth then discovers that his flask contains water, so he is able to put out the fire, but first Scarlet uses the water and her ring and trident to cast a water shaping spell and she walks across the plants.
• After the fire has been put out, the rock used to cast the spell is picked up via Mage Hand and tucked into Magmabrew's bag.
• Ari the uses the boots and her detect magic (which she initially cast to try and confirm what the magic was) to look for traps further up the path. She is able to find a pit trap and the party is able to avoid it, and cross Li by jumping, Ari by flying and rest of the party via a frozen bridge from Scarlet.
• Olly found Ari using dancing lights to play which waiting for the party to arrive, and she ran after them, so she got sent to pet space for awhile.
• Roth then leads the way searching for non-magical traps, as keeping up looking for magic traps seems like too much work for the long distance they would have to travel. He finds 2 more traps, one that would cause a rock to fall, and a second pit trap, both marked with minor image so the party can see them.
• Roth is keeping Olly with him to help locate any other traps, occasionally flying up to confirm there is nothing large ahead.
• Around 2 pm they party has a large rock, which flies down hitting Ari. The party is not sure if this was a natural event or an attack. Ari and Olly both fly up to try and get a better look, seeing a two headed creature throwing rocks.
• The party tries to dodge/hide and move up, which taking a few shots at the two headed creature.
• A few rounds in, the two headed creature is very injured and the rest of the group has a large bolder rolling down the path towards the party. Some clutch Shatter & Magic Missile spells from Alethra and some force damage from Scarlet's Spiritual Weapon manage to entirely destroy it before it reached Magmabrew.
• The party then engages the 8 creatures on the ridge, Orc who rain down javelins on them. The lesser fighters are easily disposed, but the Chief and second in command slide down the hill to engage both Alethra and Li. Alethra takes a great deal of damage, then runs away into Roth's moving ball of darkness, leaving Li flanked and taking a lot of hits.
• Scarlett is able to get closed and damage the second in command, while Li took his second win and killed both the Chief and second in command.
• Roth then dispatched the last two regular fighters in his mobile ball of darkness.
• The party rolls the bodies, finding 100 gold, Chain Mail, Plate Mail, 8 great axes, 38 javelins, 1 morning star, and 1 battle ax. All weapons in Roth's bag of holding.
• The party sees a small cave at the edge of the clearing.
• Ari and Roth (both invisible thanks to Ari) go explore, finding a raiding party set up, with 8-10 bed rolls, but nothing of value.
• The party goes inside and sets up to take a short rest, as the path they are taking does not lead them through the cave and several people are very hurt. (No Hit Dice Rolled)

100 gold, Chain Mail, Plate Mail, 8 great axes, 38 javelins, 1 morning star, and 1 battle ax.
