Session 67 - August 6, 2020 Report

General Summary

1305 - 2nd Moon of Spring (Koral) 24th Day
  • After the fight is complete, the party heals up Li, and Alethra goes to inspect the treasure chest that was partially damage by her spell during the fight.
  • The chest holds 2433 gold, a larger black pearl (700 g) and large star ruby (900 g) a large white key, and 3 large (5 in diameter buttons).
  • The gold is split between the party (excluding Magmabrew) about 486 each and Roth holds onto the two gems, the ruby is worth around 700 g per Magmabrew.
  • The brass buttons are given to Alethra, Scarlett, and Magmabrew, who are all very pleased with the unique item.
  • Ari and Roth try to figure out what the key is made of and what is would be used for. Roth thinks it is made of a large single carved bone, with a round end. The working is very fine and does not seem to have been made by the Trolls.
  • Ari confirms none of the treasure is magic and she has a vague memory that this type of bone key may be related to some sort of funerary practice, but she cannot remember where she read about it. She pockets the key to study it later.
  • The rest of the day and evening pass uneventfully.
1305 - 2nd Moon of Spring (Korar) 25th Day
  • Upon the party leaving the mini-mansion for the day, it is raining a hard, steady rain. Magmabrew does not want to trudge in the rain all day, and she recasts the mini-mansion, which allows the party to rest inside for another 12 hours.
  • Rainy day activities happen.
  • Roth, Alethra and Magmabrew attempt to create another bottle of smoke. Sadly, it does not go well and it fails.
  • Roth then practices dwarvish, plays the viol, and reads some of the magic theory books from the library.
  • Li practices dwarvish, borrows the helm to study/read. He then works on some calligraphy in his room, and does some training/exercises.
  • Ari does some additional dance practice, then spends time researching some funerary practices in the library, there are not many books, but after speaking with Magmabrew, realizes it might be a very old dwarven practice to lock or protect the burial areas. No clue if the bone is from a dwarf or not, possible.
  • Scarlett then goes outside and practices with her spells of shape water and her ring of water walking to see what kind of fun tricks she can accomplish. After that she dries off and practices a little dwarvish and prays/meditates.
  • After Alethra fails again, she is disappointed, and reviews her notes, trying to discover anything that could be off/wrong in her calculations. She then reads some more looks on magic theory, as there are no books on potion making in the library.
  • Magmabrew re-casts the mini-mansion around 7:30 pm and the party spends the night.
1305 - 2nd Moon of Spring (Korbar) 26th Day
  • The party forges a trail during the day and rests in the mansion at night, enjoying the library, research, rooms, and foods.
1305 - 2nd Moon of Spring (Korsar) 27th Day
  • The morning, when leaving the mini-mansion is much cooler than the previous days.
  • The party begins to journey and mid-morning the hairs on the back of everyone's neck stand up. Alethra, Li, Scarlett, and Magmabrew all made the save and don't think much of it. Ari, Roth, and Olly fail the save and are very paranoid for the next hour. Ari thinks that Roth is playing a trick on her and keeps looking at him. Olly does not want to do patrols, so she hides on Roth's shoulder for the hour. Roth has Branwen do circles very frequently. Roth must then defend against Ari accusing him of causing all the leaves to rustle and make odd noises. The rest of the party notices Ari acting odd, but not so much for Roth. After an hour, the effect fades, and everyone returns to normal.
  • Late afternoon Ari and Roth hear the sound of something large flying in. They both see two manticores, who attack from range, and after Ari, Roth and the Manticores have a turn, the battle begins in earnest.
  • The party takes some damage, with Alethra staying next to Magmabrew to protect her and Roth using Olly to cast darkness in the sky, giving the party an area to take cover from the the flying Manticores. Ari flies up over the trees to get better spells and attacks at the Manticores.
  • After taking some significant damage, the Manticores attempt to fly, after one final volley of tail spikes at the party. Roth and Li both are equipped with long bows, and are able to both shoot the fleeing creatures after a few key spell attacks from Ari and Scarlett.
  • Both creatures fall to the ground, dead. Roth and Magmabrew collaborate to gather some pieces from the Manticore. They get 2 fangs/incisors, 8 claws, and 9 tail spines. Scarlett takes 2 incisors, 3 claws, and 3 tail spines.
  • Roth then sees something shiny in the trees about 40 feet away, 10/12 fit in the air. He walks over and uses mage hand to try to pull whatevery it was out of the tree. A small copper teapot is caught with the mage hand (nat 20). Ari and Alethra wander over to see what Roth found. After a careful inspection, there is a geometric design around the top, nothing inside, and a phrase written on the bottom. Ari and Roth do not know the language. Alethra who speaks primordial thinks it is Auran, but she cannot read it. After using the helm, Roth realizes it says "Beware the calm sea before the storm." Ari confirms it is not magical puts it in her bag of holding for later study.
  • The rest of the day goes without incident.
  • Back in the mini-mansion later, Scarlett experiment with the tea pot, making tea with regular water (it was very nice), and pouring holy water into the tea pot (nothing happened). They determined it was a relic from a past explorer.  Ari keeps the tea pot as a fun item to have
1305 - 2nd Moon of Spring (Korvin) 28th Day
  • The party travels for most of the day without incident.
  • In the early afternoon, Roth and Ari hear the sounds of running water.  As they approach, there is a large river, almost 80-85 ft across, likely very deep and flowing quickly.
  • Roth takes a moment to observe, seeing two small columns on each side of the river, the two columns on this side have 4 small holes, one on each side of the columns.  The longer Roth looks, he see what looks like a bridge about 10 ft underwater.  He also sees some writing on top of both pillars in common.
  • At this time the party joins Roth, and looks at the river, with Alethra making a note on the map of its location.  Li and Scarlett examine the pillars and notice the phrase is the same on both "I have a head. I have a tail. I have no body. What am I?"
  • Both Li and Scarlett then notice that the small holes on each side of the pillar look about the size of a gold coin. The party then gently places a coin in one of the holes.  The pillar then locks the coin into place.  Other coins are placed.  Once the 8th one is in place, a bridge rises up from the water, making an easy crossing.
  • First Scarlett crosses quickly, ready to activate her ring of water walking.  She makes it safely across.
  • Ari and Magmabrew cross next, Ari has the boots prepped and ready to go in case there is an issue, where she can grab Magmabrew and fly across.
  • Li and Alethra then tie ropes to each other and cross the bridge as quickly as possible.
  • Roth, having seen all the rest of the party cross safely, activates his boots of speed and makes it across in 1 round.  Alethra is very impressed with his speed and asks if he cast a spell.
