Session 152 - April 11, 2024 Report
General Summary
1st Moon of Fall - 1306 - 4 Duro - Water Plane Day 12
- Party tries to plan if they want to stay or if they want to go. The fire has yet to attract any attention and since there is no other option, they think about leaving if they cannot find another island.
- Roth flies up on his broom to try and see any islands around him, but is unable to find any other islands around the area that he can easily see.
- As Roth flies down, he sees a large snake making its way towards the large bonfire that was set on the sand, and towards the very still people who are just watching Roth fly around. Roth motions to the party that there is a snake. Once the snake notices the party, it coils up and tries to be still, trying to figure out what is happening with the fire and the group around it.
- Fen then ritually casts Speak with Animals, and asks the snake about the island, any people who have been there, and any shipping or routes that have been to the island recently. The snake is not very smart or helpful, but does allow for Beartrum to pet it, as he did ask nicely, and then slithers back into the trees near the cave.
- The party thinks it may find better luck underwater, and plans to do some underwater exploring to see if they can find any evidence of a boat path or trail.
- Maintain the fire and then take watches all night. Alethra and Olly talk fish, try one during the watch. Long rest.
- Once breakfast has been eaten, the party puts on the telepathic bond and casts water breathing, starting to explore the lagoon in the center of the island they are currently staying on.
- Merry sees a fish, and Roth sees a path, likely one taken by the crabs that leads deeper into the water on the outside of the lagoon. The rest of the party do not see anything out of normal, or indication of the debris associated with normal shipping lanes.
- When doing a circuit of the outside of the island, there seems to be nothing but a natural space, with plenty of sea life, and the everyday underwater environment.
- The party will then keep the fire going that night, to see if they get any results. If nothing, they will get up the next morning and head out in a random direction.
- Merry has 1st watch, and during it, she hears something in the water. She casts firebolt to get some light, sees movement and tells Olly to get Roth. Olly wakes up Roth while the baddies take a 1st attack at Merry.
- Merry casts Freezing Sphere, taking out most of the baddies 9 down, 11 up, including the 3 casters, and the few who are still alive are now stuck in ice as they are all mostly still in the water on the way up the beach. Roth wakes up the party and flies out the door toward the battle. The casters use spiritual weapon to try and hit Merry, but Fen transforms into an Air Elemental with Merry's Bigsbys Hand, and the rest of the baddies are taken down.
- The last one standing yells something in an unknown language that Alethra understands with monk powers, so she asks the Hand and Beartrum to hold the creature. Upon closer inspection it is a scales individual with a few spearst, very sharp teeth and claws, who is wearing a hide armor or clothing.
- As it is speaking, Merry thinks the language is close to Abyssal, and likely Deep Sea Peoples language.
- Upon agreeing to help in exchange or letting him out of his current situation, he believes Alethra, and tells the party of an island 15-20 days southwest that has people on it. After that, Beartrum lets go, and the Hand kills the minion and the looting begins.
- The soldiers have a few spears, the typical outfits, and each seems to have an individual shark tooth necklace that has small decorations on it. The 3 better dressed casters have mother of pearl decorations on their outfits and a small trident on the center front of each, likely a divine focus.
- The party finishes the night, with Roth seeing a shark far out on the last watch, which he wounds, and it flees. Plans to sail in the morning.
- Party uses the rest of the wood and oil from the jug to light all the bodies on fire and use that as a distraction as they sail away from the island.
- Once they are on the boat, Fen uses the scrying orb to reach out to Elly and try to get directions. He speaks with her, and is able to make a guess at where she is, and as she does not have any real ideas about travel, knows of a horseshoe island 15 days north-west of where she is. She is trying to help us get to her, mostly as it is hard to survive on the water plane alone, and Fen said that the party was looking for someone.
- Abyssal Lessons continue.
- Late afternoon a fog rolls in, and Roth senses something in the fog. Mephits attack as Roth casts darkness, and they mephits take random attacks at where they think each party member is as Roth steers the boat away from the attackers.
- After the initial attacks are past, Roth sends Olly up to find a way out of the fog. Darkness is kept up for 30 mins, and 15 mins after it finally falls, and with a good stealth roll, the party is able to exit the fog. 4 mephits trail the group as they sail away from the fog bank (45 mins to get through it). One is killed by Roth, and Merry casts a spell locking them in place. The explosion of the 1st one takes out a wounded second one, and the other two are just left to be stuck while the boat floats away.
- The two are finally free, and they fly back into the fog with some taunts as the party is heading out of range.

- Party on the boat, Abyssal Lessons all day. During the morning, they see 4 unicorn horns while seeming to keep pace with the boat. There are 4 narwhals playing in the wake and waves the boat is making. While spoken to in many languages, there is no comprehension.
- Fen does cast Speak with Animals, getting confirmation that an island does exist in this direct and that they should "follow the cold current '' and after half an hour of gentle nudging, the narwhals lead the party into it, which will allow for slightly faster travel.
- As a thank you, the party feeds them a good portion of the giant crab rations.
