Session 149 - February 29, 2024 Report

General Summary

When Merry returned from the Feywilde she planted Oakly back in the townhome and next to it, the winter shrub that seemed to grow good berries.    2nd Moon of Summer - 1306 - 18 Fislar
  • Beatrum plays in the sand on the beach, while the party leaves around noon to start out back to Benroth by boat. 
  • The party rolls on a random encounter table and gets a large patch of sea foam floating by. Roth and Merry plan to do some fishing along the way. 
  • Fen works on water breathing, and some beast shapes that will help on the water plane, as well as working on some ideas on what would be the most helpful when being in water or underwater in a conflict situation. 
  • Mansion is popped on the boat and anchor dropped, while Olly keeps watch outside, so that the boat does not encounter any problem. 
  • Olly sings songs while keeping watch in a creepy tone that Roth is working on her with. 
2nd Moon of Summer - 1306 - 19 Fisam
  • Roth rolls a 10 and gets some very calm and clear weather, with light clouds at higher elevations. 
  • After Merry gets annoyed at the number of sea shanties that Olly has learned, and begins to teach more to Olly to help her have more interesting songs to sing. 
  • Roth and Merry fish, with Merry not catching anything and Roth getting a very large swordfish that he prepares for dinner and Beartrum is very happy to have a second helping. 
  • Fen and Olly both change into giant crabs and take a swim as well as a little ride behind the boat in preparation for what animal forms would be most helpful in the water plane.  And what form Olly could take to be most helpful. 
  • After the anchor is dropped Fen, Roth, and Alethra head into the water to do some practice on spells, attacks, movement and how efficient their current fighting styles are and what can be added to the party's items to help them. 
  • During dinner the group has a discussion and Fen mentions both the spell Freedom of Movement and a ring of swimming, which Alethra forgot she had.  
  • Roth contacts Korfel to get an order in for 5 more, him, Fen, Merry, Beartrum and Olly. 
2nd Moon of Summer - 1306 - 20 Fisten
  • Merry rolls a 3, and the party has a long day of bad winds, dark clouds and rain. 
  • Roth casts the Tiny Hut to provide some cover from the rain and Beartrum stays inside the cabin to keep out of the rain most of the day. 
  • Roth has an idea, and sends a message to Gregory to ask about a ring of swimming.  The party then decides to swing by his tower on the way home to pick it up and get some more information on his thoughts on the water plane. 
2nd Moon of Summer - 1306 - 21 Fisen
  • Roth rolls an 11, and sees an odd pattern in the water, and with the spyglass sees an odd turtle nose, but one that looks far too large to be real, only to realize it is in fact a dragon turtle, something that does not seem like it should be in the very heavily shipped Bay of Songs. 
  • The dragon then approaches the boat and speaks in Draconic, asking what they will give the turtle for protection. Roth then goes full charm offensive, and the dragon turtle fails, so they ask for a tale or something interesting. Roth relates the tale of the death of the kraken, and Merry offers musical accompaniment and Olly offers tiny dragon commentary. Performance roll is now 32, and the Dragon Turtle offers them a small token in exchange for such an amazing story, chest with 1000 g worth of silver bars. 
  • Roth then contacts Korfel, to let him know about their arrival, and Korfel found a ring of swimming in his back stock, and he can help Roth create the last 3, in about 4-5 weeks, with them working together. 
  • Gregory welcomes the party and hosts them for dinner, while giving Merry his ring of swimming. They discuss some options for the water plane travel, as well as the surprising news of a dragon turtle in the bay. Lady Marisha will need to be notified, as she specializes in water creatures and will try to banish the turtle back to the water plane. He also offers to send the party back to Benroth in the morning with the teleport circle. 
  • Long rest in Gregory's tower.
2nd Moon of Summer - 1306 22  - to 3rd Moon of Summer - 1306 - 21 
  • In the morning, Gregory sends the party to the circle in the magical university. Fen and Beartrum go to find Tristian, both to borrow a tree to send Beartrum home and to get an appointment on Marisha's calendar.  Merry and Alethra head to the library while Roth goes to Korfels. 
  • Roth goes to Korfel's shop, paying 300 g for the ring of swimming in stock and 40 g for items to be able to resummon Olly, who he then summons as a Quosit, and starts to work on the rings. 
  • Roth, working 10 hours days with Korfel is able to get the 3 rings done in 4 weeks, and with Quosit Olly talking to him, gets in 1 week of study on the Abyssal language. 
  • Alethra goes straight to the restricted section and pulls out as many books as she can on the water plane, and then later on researches options to close a portal.  Alethra goes through to look at which ones were the most relevant and then starts to read as many as she can in 4 weeks. On the water plane there are two humanoid subspecies, the sea elves and the deep sea people.  Both can breathe air and be on land, but keep their homes in the water.  There are 3 zones on the water plane, Shallows, Deeps, and Arctic. There are many small islands in the Shallows, where the temperature is rather warm.  There is a book on creatures, including a dragon turtle, which is both intelligent and territorial. 
  • Merry is looking more into the folklore of the water plane.  There are plenty of books on mermaids and sirens, and other creatures that live in the sea. Several references to the horrors of the deep, including but not limited to Krakens, Giant Squid, and Storm Giants.  Some of the normal ocean life in the human realm is also seen on the water plane, just on a larger scale.  There are also some vortexes where ships and people are taken through the plane rift.  
  • Fen has a meeting with Lady Marisha and learns of her two trips to the Water Plane and her interactions with the sea elves, whom she had spoken with. He learns the spell to close the rifts in case one is found.
  • Lady Marisha sends a note in week 3, the Dragon Turtle was returned to the water plane, and she is going to teach Fen a spell to close rifts between worlds in case the party finds one on their travels.  With all the water plane creatures, it is getting very possible there is a large rift and the creatures getting through are a problem.
  • Althera learns that current changes and temperature changes are two of the easiest ways to sense a water to water rift, as it is hard to just see them visually. 
  • Alethra finds a small section of maps at the back of one book on the water plane and in it is an island similar to the one that Miro drew, the location of her mother.  She copies it carefully.
  • Roth learns that upgrading the ring to a 5 level ring for Olly would take 4-6 weeks, so that does not get tagged onto the timeline. Roth then goes to confirm his travels with the man of letters, and all is in order in case of Roth being gone for an extended amount of time. 
  • Fenna is in town.
