Session 133 - April 27, 2023 Report

General Summary

Feywild Day 8
  • Olly is worried about if she can sleep, and so Roth suggests that she ask the Mage to put a spell in her ring, and Olly asks for fireball.  
  • Guards have a plan to wait a day before going through the storm wall, and so the party rests for the night. 
  • Roth only rests for 4 hours, and spends the rest of the time on the harp, with Branwen not happy about the fact that Olly is missing. 
Feywild Day 9
  • Party goes out of the mini mansion, with Beartrum disguised with the hat as a polar bear, so that he is better able to blend into the rest of the group. 
  • The goal for that day is to find a giant hunting party and try to parlay with them before crossing into the storm wall.  Groups of 4 are set up, 1 going east, 1 going west, 1 waiting there, and 1 going to find fresh rations.  Merry, Beartrum and Roth also go out hunting, and Alethra stays with the group, working on the puzzle book. 
  • Olly is then tasked to help with the crystal identification, and Roth speaks through Olly, with a brief message to Mage Shadowspell, and reminding Olly to be polite and not ask too many questions. 
  • The three waiting and exploring parties do not meet an giants on the trip around the storm's outside, and the two hunting parties are successful.  Roth, Merry and Beartrum find two rabbits and the fey court scouts find a small reindeer. 
  • All food goes to the fey soldiers, with the party waiting to eat until inside. There is a conversation about crabs, which are unknown to the winter Fey, as there is not an ocean there, and some concerns about how quickly the city was able to set up an ice wall and how long the storm has been there.  There are concerns about the shaman and what kind of magic they possess. 
  • Since there was not any giant contact, there is a plan to head to the front gate tomorrow with a more diplomatic approach.  Roth leaves Branwen with Cpt Brody in case of need to contact the party in the middle of the night.
Feywild Day 10
  • The party wakes up, and when Olly speaks with Roth, the thought is that the crystal is used for summoning, it seems to be attuned to the elemental plane of water, but nothing beyond that. Olly is learning a lot. 
  • Alethra knows that Fen was trapped on the elemental plane of water for 5 years, so tries to send a message to him, and with the stone is able to get through.  He tells her to be careful and there are many elemental creatures as well as storm giants in the water plane, as well as Krakens. 
  • Roth is very concerned about this, and sends Olly into see Mage Shadowspell, and is warned that this mage could be a storm giant and due to the size of the circle, many, very dangerous things could get through.  Olly also sees a fancy lady in the room when speaking, but she does not seem to be concerned. Mage Shadowspell thinks taking out or capturing this magical giant is the best course of action, and prevent anything summoned or an invasion of other giants. 
  • Mage Shadowspell will leave Roth to speak with Cpt Brody and will give Olly official orders for when Olly is able to rejoin the party. 
  • Upon this revelation of possible storm giant invasion, Cpt Brody calls in Ester, who is the best giant speaker of the group to help plan out the conversation at the gate and what are the best ways to get the magical giant outside the gate and away from the group. 
  • Merry has the idea that we can bluff the way in, with Merry using the elephant Gertrude to make a spectacle and offer to trade magical items, and try to get the shaman outside the gate to give the group a chance to polymorph or run with her. 
  • The group goes through the wind wall, with the fey winter guard and their polar bears in an ambush position about 120 ft away from the gate.  At that point, Roth casts the telepathic bond with the party, Cpt Brody, Ester and 2 captains.  Alethra then casts a scry spell to try and use that to cast suggestion through the orb and get the shaman to come out on her own it fails. 
  • From this staging point, an elephant was brought forth and the box with Oakley left with Cpt Brody. 
  • Roth is in winter camo and full 37 stealth, with Alethra also in winter cameo riding a winter camo colored Beartrum, while Merry is in full disguise self as a red teifling with bright robes, and many flashy pieces of jewelry.  She makes quite a big show with the sound of trumpets, going full sales person on the magical and mystical items can has to sell or trade. 
  • After a very high roll, a guard is sent to get the "magical users" while a few children peak around the corner to see what is happening and see the elephant, which is new to them. 
  • A few moments later, after the elephant has been dismissed, the shaman, her eyes a normal light blue now with antlers walks out of the gate, with a second older giant woman, who has a staff and feathers woven into her long gray hair. 
  • Roth casts hex on the shaman, disadvantage on wisdom checks (insight, perceptions, etc), and then Merry casts suggestion that the shaman should come out of the storm to see all the rest of the magical items in the caravan. The second magical woman with staff is amused by this with a 32 persuasion from Merry, and says to have Zenia take a look and bring back anything interesting in an hour or so. All of this is being relayed along the bond, so the fey winter soldiers run ahead outside the storm wall and with Roth set up a fake caravan. 
  • Roth pulls out the boat and tries to make the soldiers less court official and more trader, and several of them hide in the brush to have fewer numbers. 
  • Since she is charmed, Zenia is happily chatting with Merry and when arrives is slightly confused, but agrees to share some tea before the business begins.  After Alethra makes tea with the poisonous fungus from the dwarven city, and uses 10 oz, the giant takes 68 points of poison damage, while pretending concern, Merry has the people move back and back and then casts polymorph, which fails.  Since the clock is ticking, the fight begins. 
  • Roth casts silence and shoots an arrow, the fey winter guard fire a volley of arrows with 5 hits and 1 crit. The Shaman flees back to the storm wall, with Beartrum charging, Alethra throwing a fire ball and fires an arrow, with Roth dealing the final crit blow of 83 points of damage. 
  • Since the giant is unconscious and bleeding out, Merry stabilizes her and turns her into a turtle. Spell has no wild magic effects. Then everyone gets a move on, as they are on a clock and have a little more than an hour before the giants realize the ruse. 
  • Roth and Alethra on the broom help the scouts to disguise the trail and the group rides in pairs as quickly as they can away from the storm wall. Roth hands the sending stone to Cpt Brody to reach out to Mage Shadowspell and arrange for some kind of rapid transportation to get the turtle/giant away from the ice giants as quickly as possible.  Mage Shadowspell is working on a plan, and says to keep going as quickly as possible and put as much distance as possible. 
  • After an hour, the bond falls and the turtle has to be respelled to continue to be a turtle, which has no wild magic effects.  After that, Cpt Brody again sends a message and is given a location. 
  • The group holds up in a small clearing and two winter fey teleport in to meet the group. Cpt Brody recognizes the elf, named Matilda, who casts the spell of teleportation circle, which allows Matilda, Merry, Alethra, Beartrum, Roth in crow form, and 4 other riders and mounts to go through the circle with with turtle/giant back to the castle. 
  • They all clear out the teleportation circle room and are lead down a hallway by Mage Shadowspell with the turtle, while Matlida and the guards head upstairs.  Not far behind are another 8 guards and bears, along with Leaf, the second magic teleporter.  It seems that 4 bears and scouts were left behind to continue on foot and leave a false trail before heading back. 
  • Mage Shadowspell kindly accepts the turtle from Merry and leads the group down a hallway to a group of doors off a dimly let corridor.  This is a dungeon for problematic magic creatures, she says, and then is able to open the door with magic and a key.  She places the turtle outside the threshold and gently pushes it inside before closing the door, and looking in through a small window with a cover.  Once inside, the turtle becomes a storm giant, with glowing white eyes, light blue hair, and when she goes to speak, no sound comes out.  The room seems anti-magic and silenced. 
  • Mage Shadowspell thanks the party for their help, and suggests that they allow their guest to rest a bit, and invites them upstairs. 
  • Party is now level 15
