Session 131 - March 30th, 2023 Report

General Summary

Feywilde - Day 5

• After Olly does a review of inside the cave, the decision is made to try and transfer a small section of this good berry bush and get it into the box with Oakly to transport back to their home plane.
• There is some concern on how to enter this cave, with the icicles not looking quite right to Roth and Alethra. There is some concern and some testing, and Roth then uses his mage hand to tap on the blocking icicles, which causes it to fall inward and break, which upsets and scares Olly. The party then stealth's into the cave, with Althera moving one of the other icicles to the side to allow room for them to pass inside.
• After investigating the space, it seems to have not been used in some time, with the fire area very cold and nothing left. There is a smaller part of the tiny good berry shrub, now called Tiny Tim, which can be separated without taking the while row of shrub. There is some help as Beartrum digs with his claws, and finds the taproot for the plant. While digging happens, Merry opens up the box and Oakly gets a little time outside, helping with clearing a small space and moving some dirt via tree and tiny servant help so the plant has some native soil.
• Oakly is rather pleased to have another plant friend, and will take as good care as they can from inside the box. Oakly is not a fan of the cold soil, but it is ok for a short time.
• Althrea takes a soil sample, and the soil seems to be more white than the brown they are used to.
• After the box is repacked, and Oakly is settled in with the new plant friend, the party makes the decision to push onward. Roth is the first to head out, after a confirmation from Olly that the coast is clear. As Roth goes to leave the cave, the party is attack by an adult and young snow/fire worm. The smaller one can get into the cave, but the large one does not fit inside the door, just blocks it.
• There are several attacks with spells and swords. After fire does not seem to hurt the smaller worm creature, Merry changes tactics and turns it into a turtle with polymorph. The party then focuses on the larger worm, with Beartrum taking a lot of hits, and Merry, Roth, and Alethra using ranged weapons to take it down while the now polymorphed turtle is in the bag of holding. With the use of Bigby's hand and several arrows and shadow blades the larger worm is killed.
• The smaller worm/turtle is removed from the bag of holding and once the spell is dropped it is hit by many, many attacks and dies. Roth takes a moment to cut up the worm to see if it has fire magic while the party takes a short rest in the cave.
• After the short rest, party continues for the rest of the day, finally resting for the night. Beartrum is particularly tired after that fight and is happy to get to rest by a fire.
• There is then a conversation on how Olly could write in dragonic and if she could use the ring to call the nice Lady Kringle. Roth declines, and the party takes a long rest.

Feywilde - Day 6

• Party awakens the next day to a snow storm with little to no visibility. Tiny servants are summoned to create an underground snow cave, and the party rests in the cave which is blocked by a tiny hut that Roth created. Olly amuses herself by making tiny snow people and a snow bear while they wait for the storm to clear.
• There is some confusion as to if the storm they are chasing has caught up to them or if this is just a normal weather pattern.
• After about 2-3 hours the storm clears enough for the group to move out of the little cave and toward their destination, which seems to be in the same place. As the group gets about a mile out from the edge of the storm they can see, there is a slight uphill path they are walking and that there is a slight thinning out of the trees. There is not a loss of cover, just less. From their viewpoint, it seems that the top of a small hill has been surrounded by this storm. As they get to within 200 ft, they hear a sound of wind, but most of the local wildlife are still there, just not getting close to the storm.
• Althera then wants to test the wind patterns and throws a stick into the wall of fog, which gets picked up by some wind and moves around in a counterclockwise pattern. The plan is then to see if Olly can fly into the storm for a ride to see what happens. She is tiny so fails 2 strength saving throws, and does not even make it into the storm proper. She is very sad about this and also confused about what happens.
• Then a plan is make to make Olly slightly bigger so that she has a better chance to get to ride the windstorm, with all her gear being left with Roth. Olly then gets enlarge cast on her, with Olly then a visible small creature. Her roll is then high enough to get her through the storm, not caught up in the wind, so she goes invisible and is now in a foggy forest, with some spaces up ahead.
• Olly then flies up the hill and sees a large ice wall around what looks like large village of giants, with guards at the gate, hunters returning, and children playing. After a full circle of the town and only seeing the one gate, she links up with Roth, and flies over the center of the village, where she sees a ritual circle set up, there is a large bare section in the center and stones are used to draw out the circle and at certain points there are the sapphires which were being used to make the window illusion in the castle of the Fey Court.
• Olly sees a large lady who seems to be in charge of the circle and she has a large ceremonial head dress on, made of antlers and moss.
• As Olly completes her flyby she hears two guards talking about the plans, with one of them complaining about how long the ritual was taking, and the other staying the summoning would be completed in a day or two. Olly does not understand, but Roth, who hears through her is wearing the Helm of Comprehend Languages, so he can comprehend the giants' words.
• Olly then gets summoned back to Roth, and the party sits down and tries to make a plan. Roth sends a message to Cpt Brody while Althera attunes to the Scrying Orb. Cpt Brody gathers items and connects with Alethra while the whole group is connected with the telepathic bond, so they are in a magical conference call. Cpt Brody is concerned after he is shown both the ritual circle and the person performing the ritual. Cpt Brody reveals that the giants have some smaller magic, but not a mass summoning magic as this circle seems to be. He is also concerned as any back up will take 3-4 days to arrive on foot, he will try to get faster option, and they may not have that much time. Cpt Brody suggests to stall the ritual. The Sapphires that are seen are used as magical power holders and can aid in the power of the ritual and to boost the magic which was already added to the circle.
• Cpt Brody will get a group together and head to the group, but suggests a stalling attack that night in the hopes that things can be halted until the back up arrives or there is some information gained by the higher magical users in the court.
• Cpt Brody is concerned there was another gate or breach which a non-winter fey creature entered and now is causing this chaos.
• After the connection drops, the planning begins, with ideas on how to get Olly with the lightening ring to start shattering stones, Roth to invisibly fly to gather the sapphires, Merry to dimension door into the spaces, where to set up the mini mansion to hide the party in case of problems, and what Alethra and Beartrum can do as back up. Planning begins and then once something is set up Olly will do surveillance to pick the best time. With the plan to attack that rest/night.
