Session 129 - March 2, 2023 Report
General Summary
Fey Wilde - Day 2
- The group makes it to the stone wall that is the edge of the official grounds of the castle, and Merry feels a slight chance, signaling the end of the charm on Oakly. Merry does check on Oakly and is glad that they also want to stay in the box, as it is very cold. Oakly is happy to be out and experiencing the Winter, but is much better in their warm and cozy box.
- Beartrum attempts a penguin slide down a hill with no luck.
- The party is now in "lawless territory" with the ground being difficult terrain and the forest being overgrown and quiet thick. Moon is still visible.
- Olly and Roth fly up to get a view of what is around and Olly sees something. Roth then flies up and looks at the two humanoid creatures, each wrapped in fur, with an elk carcass being dragged behind them. Roth thinks Yeti or Giant, due to the size. The party then tries to sneak up on the giants, but Beartrum has a not great roll, and the giants rolled well on their perception check.
- Beartrum takes a small tumble, and the giants head over to investigate, with the party taking up positions along the way. When close enough, Merry fires off a Freezing Sphere (giants take no damage due to cold damage, fight begins). Wild Magic Surge, Merry has mirror image.
- Alethra then tries to speak to the giants but does not roll high enough to persuade them that the magic was due to surprise. When rebuked for the spell, Merry says she wants buttons!
- Roth fires arrow, Merry immolates with fire, and Alethra firebolts, Beartrum crits on an opportunity attack, and then Roth crits to kill the 1st Giant.
- Bigby's hand is summoned and only Merry hears battlefield bagpipers for the next 2 hours. The hand grapples and giant and while the giant tries to fight off the party, after Roth, Alethra and Bearturm get another round, Roth kills the 1 HP Frost Giant, all 21 ft of it.
- Merry searches for buttons, finds 4 carved toggles per body, (8 total) made of some kind of bone, Beartrum gets cleaned up by Olly with cleansing stone, and then Beartrum finds what they were hunting. Roth and Alethra look for other items, finding 3 skinning swords, rations, water skins and a berry.
- Alethra is not sure what the berry is and tries it, and it tastes vaguely of Good Berry, which is interesting, and raises the question of druid Frost Giants or a Good Berry Tree.
- Since the group cannot easily or quickly bury or get rid of the bodies, Alethra flies behind Beartrum to disguise the tracks, and does a pretty good job.
- The decision is made to wait until the moon disappears and then rest a good distance away from the battle sight.
- Roth then notices Merry enjoying some odd internal musical selection, and when the moon blinks out of existence, Roth sets up the mansion, and as Alethra is not hungry, she just sleeps.
- Long rest inside the mansion.
- The next morning after a good breakfast and hot tub soak, Olly is sent outside to scout, and sees a small all white hare, which Olly later mentions has antler. Roth then stealthily flies outside and kills it to match the hare with a set of horns. Bunny in bag of colding, and off the party goes off.
- They are on course to head towards the storm, with 2-3 days at best guess, and Roth sees a faint outline in the snow, a path for the deer and so the day's travel is not on difficult terrain.
- A few hours into the trip, Beartrum sees some live koi fish swimming along in a river, with a frozen top. It is very lovely and tranquil.
- The group continues on and Roth hears something, faint bells, so Olly is sent out to invisibly investigate. There is an elf man and woman in the sleigh, pulled by 8 reindeer, and the harnesses have bells on them. Both are dressed in red with white fur trimmings. The Lady seems to see Olly, and Roth lets the party know.
- Since Olly has been seen, Merry starts to play some music to also announce their presence and they are greeted by the tall, thin, and older elf couple, both with bright white hair and pale blue eyes. They introduce themselves as Sir and Lady Kringle.
- The pair invite the party to stop and have some warm spiced wine and share tales of the places and adventures they have had. Sir Kringle uses a small box to create a large tent made of canvas and velvet and beautifully furnished inside, warm and out of the snow.
- Merry does not see any gems/jewels of the correct size in the tent.
- Roth tells of the Kraken visit, Alethra of the battle with the Acid Black Dragon, and Beartrum of the life under ground with the giants, Merry does not do a great job, but just pass the check, so the party will each have 10 HP.
