Session 123 - November 10, 2022 Report

General Summary

1306 - 1st Moon of Spring - Koral (24th Day)

• The group goes into the mansion for lunch, with both Fenton and Alethra being confused and a little awkward towards each other. As soon as they are all in the space, Fenton is told how to order food from the platters and the party try to bring him up to speed on what is going on with them, what they found in the city so far, and all sorts of odds and ends about the life Alethra has lead up to that point.
• Fenton tells about taming/training Polly, and how the time it takes the ember to hatch again does vary, with as little as 1 day and as many as 6 days. He has tried to speak with Polly, but it never seemed to work.
• Fenton asks if he can go with the group, meets some of the contacts in town, possibly get back into the university system to earn some money/teach some classes/perform some spells, and have access to some trees so that he can continue to visit Alethra and grow that relationship.
• Fenton speaks with the group on ways to see if Alethra's mother is still alive via various magics, scry, sending, and possibly seeking out the wizard Miro, who specializes in divination, to help. Fenton would like to get back into the world a bit, and then work with Alethra on some ways to determine if Eilphine is still alive and how to find her.
• The decision is made that Fenton will come to the Barony, then Benroth, so that he can start gathering what is needed to refocus his quest and spend time with Alethra.
• While chatting over the end of lunch, Fenton sees the petrified leaf that Roth found in the caved in room. Fenton explains it is likely a piece of the Elemental Plane of Earth, and it is likely being used as a focus for a high level spell to move between the planes. Ari is not sure if she wants it, so Fenton will hold it.
• There is talk about what to do with the shambling mounds who live at the cave entrance. Fenton never killed them, just used tree stride to get out whenever he needed to through a tree in the orchard. They will take 1 to fertilize the mushrooms and leave 2, 1 mostly in tact and 1 mostly destroyed to see what happens.
• Roth messages Sybil and tells her they will be arriving at the Barony soon, with 1 guest and will be staying overnight. Sybil will get all the rooms and 1 guest cabin ready. Sybil asks Roth about the Sowing festival, and if he will attend. They will discuss when he arrives. Alethra remembers that there is a small celebration at Sowing (after planting), Harvest (after all crops gathered), and New Years.
• Roth gives Fenton a drink, and casts the telepathic bond so that everyone can communicate, and Fenton is kind enough to cast a spell in the ring for Olly, a 3rd level Call Lightening spell.
• The group goes to the entrance, uses Merry's box to pick up 1 of the Shambling mounds, and use her box to take it to the mushroom garden. While this is going on Ari asks Alethra if she wants to try and go find her mother, and Alethra is still not sure yet, she was considering it, but now that she has Fenton, she will consider it more strongly.
• Roth and Fenton chat about options for heated tiles as both Olly and Beartrum really seem to enjoy them.
• Ari teleports everyone to the Barony, where Beartrum reunites with Soot, who is delighted to see everyone. Beartrum rests with Soot and Ari. Merry goes to check on her goats and she still has all of them, and the tiny tiefling doll helps count. Roth and Alethra show Fenton the estate, his cabin, and the tree that he can use to tree stride. He realizes that Alethra is not in her 20's, but that he lost about 60 years to his grief in the base of the volcano looking for a way to find his love. He will need some time to process that and will meet everyone at the house for dinner around 6pm.
• At dinner, Sybil talks the party through the Sowing festival, there is a bonfire, food, song and dance, and a greased Sow contest. The child who can catch it will win a pair of goats from the Baron, and Roth agrees to try and bring in a few barrels of beer for the party, as well as a priestess/acolyte for any medical needs. Sybil also asks if Beartrum can make his official debut in the town and would he be ok to give a few owl bear rides to the children. He agrees if the parents will walk beside and no one will get hurt. Sybil tells Merry that there will likely be 3 new goats soon.
• There is a programmed illusion at dinner, which Roth makes Ari dispel, and then Soot pounces on Fenton's lap. The party enjoys a nice pie for dessert. Roth offers Fenton an extra bottle of wine, and Fenton returns to his cabin and Beartrum and Soot go out for the evening patrol.

1306 - 1st Moon of Spring - Koral (25th Day)

• At breakfast, Sybil gives a breakdown of the past month and the planting. Alethra confirms that the books are in order and the goat cheese is selling well. Fenton joins the group and comments on how nice breakfast is. Beartrum stays at the Barony, and looks forward to seeing them all for the party.
• As everyone arrives at the university, with Alethra and Fenton waiting for Tristan, so Fenton can get back into druid work, and Merry, Ari, and Roth running some errands. Everyone agrees to meet at the house for lunch to regroup.
• Roth goes to the brewery, gets 3 kegs of beer to be taken to the Barony, and he will arrange a cart to pick them up the next morning. He goes to the merchants guild, paying extra to make sure they travel fast (15 g) and arrive in 3 days, and they will take 1 passenger. Roth then stops by the Raven Queen temple to have tea with Katrina, and arranges for the acolyte Harmony to go the Barony with the cart of beer, departing the next morning at dawn. Roth gives a donation and hears all the gossip, including an odd illusion of a unicorn in the temple complex. Roth then returns to the house around 11 am.
• Ari sends a note to invite Magmabrew for dinner, to trade back items, drops off a sketch for her court dress to Andrea at The Legacy Design, 20 gold upfront and she will bring by the fabric later. Ari buys 4 hatchets so that Merry can create tiny servants to chop up the tree (20 g), gets 5 lbs of rock candy (5 gold). Ari then orders a small owl bear wind up toy that ice skates in a figure 8 around a pond. It is 35 gold and will be ready in two weeks. She gets a dozen eggs, goes back to the house and tells Judith there will be 1 more for lunch and 2 more for dinner.
• Merry goes straight back to the house with the box full of twice dead tree, goes to check on her new tree and hang out with it.
• Tristian arrives and goes with Alethra and Fenton to check Lady Marish's schedule. The arch druid can see Fenton on the 28th just after lunch. Alethra is excited to share the mushrooms she found and shows them to Tristian, who has never seen these types before. Alethra suggests they go to the Gold Room later to check with the owners on the types of mushroom.
• After the plans are made for the appointment, Alethra and Fenton head to the library to research Fey Gates, anything they can find on the subject. They begin to pull books.
