Session 118 - August 25th, 2022 Report

General Summary

1306 - 1st Moon of Spring - Fisro (17th Day)
  • The party stays outside of the main Kraken cave and communicates what is know/can remember about the various sea creatures including Krakens. Alethra with a 10 nature knows it is similar to a squid and can make an ink cloud. Roth with a 23 arcane knows it is magical (with some lightening magic), intelligent, cunning, and telepathically can speak Celestial.
  • Ari then uses the orb to scry on the Kraken (fails its save) and then uses its tentacles to reach out to the orb. There is an attempt at some negations and barter to get back the relic, that Ari makes, but after hearing the conversation, neither is sure that they can trust the Kraken to just not kill the party and take all the treasure. As soon as Olly pops around the corner to confirm that the Kraken they feed meat to is also the Kraken to which is around the corner, on a nat 20 roll, with truesight for 120 ft, Olly gets a lightening shot taken at her. She is unhappy about that and combat now starts.
  • Since Cold'era was holding a control water, all water within a 100 ft cube is not gone. The cave and hall way are all now clear of water and 6 tiny jelly fish fall to the floor, now unable to move. The Kraken is viewing the edge of the cavern with hostility and Ari is being ignored as she was trying to keep contact via scry and telepathy.
  • The party then stands at the end of the hallway in the water and moves into the air for various attacks. Olly and Alethra both cast fireball, Roth got 3 good shots at the Kraken, Ari summoned a giant boar and a brown bear (both who took out jelly fish and were taken out by the Kraken) and Cold'era casts a twilight sphere which gives temp HP and casts a spiritual weapon. Beartrum charges in, and stomps some jelly fish. Ari then blow on the Brass horn of Valhalla, summoning 10 barbarians, and allowing Roth to finally kill the beast.
  • The Kraken falls and the party along with the 10 summoned barbarians, enters the chamber. Ari casts a light spell to investigate the space. Cold'era finals the relic in its box and it delighted to see it is still in tact. She uses the sending stone she was given to reach out to Katrina and inform here that the relic has been recovered. There are discoveries of money, 2 rings, 2 potions, an ax, 2 large hoards of coins, a small leather bag of gems, and a small crate of spy glasses. There are also several javelins in bundles around the cave. Beartrum finds several large jugs of wine. The 2 rings, 2 potions, 1 spyglass and throwing ax are all magical.
  • The party tries to figure out the best way to sort the issue of getting everyone back to their home, the relic returned as soon as possible, and the body of the Kraken returned to the university in Benroth to study/dissect. At this time all the water returns to the cave, and the summoned creatures are extra confused. Roth takes 10 mins and casts a spell which prevents the decomposition of the body for a time. Ari takes a few rocks from the inner cave to teleport back to later.
  • The group leaves the cave and walks back through the tunnel. Alethra is able to collapse the tunnel entrance with a shatter spell, preventing anything from easily finding the Kraken's layer. There are now sharks outside the large cave which are feeding on the sharks killed in battle about 30 mins ago. There is treasure discussion and the valuable items are given to the party, whom Cold'era casts Water Walk on, and they all shoot to the surface, while the 10 barbarians are given the javelins and told to use the rest of the time to battle the sharks and then set up the javelins in a defensive pattern around the mouth of the cave.
  • The party arrives back on the boat, with Cold'era saying farewell to the party, as Ari casts Teleportation Circle, and High Priestess Katrina will meet Cold'era and the relic at the University library shortly. Olly goes back with Cold'era through the teleportation circle. Once Cold'era and Olly are back in Benroth, the relic is returned to the pilgrimage clerics and Olly gets to speak to Katrina with Roth's voice and informs her that the job is complete. Olly is then resummoned to Roth.
  • Beartrum is quite tired after all that and being up during the day, so he rests while the plan is hatched to sail to Miro's tower (it is around noon and they should arrive in 4-5 hours), so Roth sends Gregory a message of their arrival. On the way there, the loot is reviewed and divided up. There is 11,000 gold in coins (3000 to each Ari, Alethra and Roth, and 2000 for Beartrum's needs and uses). There are 4 large jugs of wine, a small bag of gems (2 diamonds each worth 500g, 5 small pieces of blue amber each worth 500g, 3 sapphires worth 750g each, 2 square cut emeralds worth 1000g each, 2 black opals each worth 500g) About 8000g worth of gems total. There are 2 rings of swimming, 1 potion of water breathing and 1 potin of water walking, as well as a +1 dwarven throwing ax, and 1 magical spy glass that gives you a +2 to perception when you use it.
  • Alethra and Ari each keep a ring, and the coins are divided up. Roth keeps the extra perception spyglass, with 1 each for Alethra, Ari, and Merry (which are good tools to have around).
  • The boat arrives on the dock, and everyone is invited in for dinner. Gregory had Miro contact Lady Marisha to have her prepare for the Kraken body incoming. He mentions she specializes in water creatures. Gregory is happy to re-cast fireball into the ring for Olly and give her some pets. During dinner the plan is set to teleport to the cave (Ari), then shrink the body of the Kraken and have Gregory 1st send it to Marisha, and then take the party to Marisha, Miro will stay on the island. While talking about the Kraken and possible items that could be made from it. Since lightening seems to be the main magical ability of the Kraken, anyone would like a magical lightening item, and Gregory will take inspiration from the spell chain lighting. After dinner with Miro is trying to get ready for retiring, he is shown Roth's Mini Mansion and they are all delighted with the craftsmanship and the inside decoration. Everyone then takes a long rest.
1306 - 1st Moon of Spring - Fislar (18th Day)
  • The next morning, after breakfast, Miro says goodbye to the party as Ari teleports herself, Gregory, Roth, Alethra, Beartrum, and Olly to the cave with the Kraken body. Alethra uses her wand to make the Kraken a 10 by 10 creature, so the Gregory can cast the teleport spell on it. After the body has been sent, Gregory uses a second teleport spell to send the party to Lady Marisha's garden and the group is very surprised to see the giant pond available which several druids were pushing the body of the Kraken into.
Merry Goes to the Feywilde -
  • One the 1st of the month, Merry went to the Feywilde in search of the new tree which she is hoping to awaken and return to the Material plane. After Merry greets the Lord and Lady of the court, and has permission to take a tree from the forest and alter it magically.
  • After two hours of searching, Merry finds about a 15 ft tall Feather Oak tree with deep blue/teal leaves. She takes the full 8 hours to cast the awaken spell and uses up the material needed.
  • Upon awakening, the tree meets Merry and is given the name Oakly. After trying to explain what happened to it, the way to travel, new travel opportunities, and how the new box where Oaky will travel will work. Oakly is happy to agree to travel with Merry and the two (with the help of many tiny invisible servants) gather the dirt of the Feywilde, as well as some leaves, acorns, and small sticks into the large box, during the 1 hour it is large and open. After that, Oakly gets inside and shrinks down to the smaller size in the box (now 2.5 by 2.5 ft). Oakly tells Merry of what it remembers of the time growing in the Feywilde, including a time of darkness, which is odd as the sun is almost always shinning for the 24 hours or so that Merry has visited.
  • Back at the camp of the Lord and Lady, they meet Oakly in the small box and give them some water as the party then eats dinner and rests for the evening.
  • The following morning Merry and the crate/backpack with a Feywilde tree return to the material plane. Merry walks through town, talking to the box on her back. She gets back to the house and it greeted by Judith, who tells her of the party's travels and plans. Merry realizes it is now the day after the full moon, the 16th, almost 2 weeks after she left. Merry takes the crate up to her room and tells Oakly about the buttons and plan to make them a shirt or outfit.
  • Oakly and Merry stay inside her room and the house for the rest of the day, talking and learning about the new place that Oaky has found itself.
  • The morning of the 17th Merry and Oakly (both invisible) dig a hole in the garden and plant Oaky in the mid morning sunshine. Oaky likes the new soil and lovely fountain of their new home, and learns which window is Merry's in cast they need anything. Oakly is instructed to look like a normal tree as a surprise until Merry can introduce them to the rest of the party. As they are both now visible and Merry goes to wander about town, Oaky sees Jess the cat. Merry gives some hints on how to interact with the cat, and leaves Oakly to try and make friends.
  • Merry takes a wander about town, realizing that all the drama on the two boats with possible affairs have left port and she cannot check in on how that turned out. She then wanders over to see the house of Lady Selina DeWolf, who was doing excessive updates to the house is now updating the library with new shelves, and new marble fireplace and furnishing. Merry will have to look into the costs of this at some point. Merry hears rumors that the many Raven Queen clerics and priestesses in town are due to a large ritual, or possible a very high profile funeral, but no one is sure.
  • Merry rests and has breakfast on the 18th, learning from Judith that the party has returned, and goes to hide invisibly in the corner until the party returns in the hopes of surprising someone.
