Session 116 - July 28th, 2022 Report
General Summary
1306 - 1st Moon of Spring - Ruanes (14th Day)
- The party arrives at the Barony and surprises Sybil, who was not prepared to feed everyone, and starts to look around for what to feed the party. She then starts open cabinets. Roth says not to worry, and casts the mini mansion, which allows the party to eat dinner in there. The party then retires to their rooms at the barony, with Soot and Beartrum going back to their room underground.
- Alethra and Roth head into town to pick up a few items, leaving Soot, Beartrum, and Ari at the Barony. Ari is preparing for the full moon the next evening, when she thinks it is possible that the fey gate can open and creatures pass through it.
- Back at the home in town around lunch Judith is happy to see the Roth and Alethra. Roth heads to Korfels shop for the googles he ordered for Soot and Beatrum, as well as seeing the stuffed Jackalope that Archdruid Marisha sent over. He then travels to the Dizzy Monkey to buy a small travel harp and case (20 gold). He stays a bit to listen to the gossip around the store, learning nothing interesting about his party, hearing some strange (and untrue) rumors about the party they threw at the house.
- Alethra heads to the library to do some mushroom research on the 3 items she brought back from the Underdark, being very interested in what she can learn about the 2 she has never seen before. She goes through 6 books (3 common, 2 dwarvish, 1 elvish) and learns more about the Hedge Hog mushroom she had already ate, but not much else about the Edge of the Lake mushroom, which she finds a passing mention in a book. It is mostly good for livestock, is slightly toxic to dwarves and is know for the blue patterns on the mushroom caps.
- At dinner, Roth and Alethra talk about the possibility to grow more mushrooms in the basement, how Olly can use fireball (or another spell) against creatures that are immune to fire and Roth gives her a small vial of holy water. Olly seems very happy about that and wants to get another fireball in her ring, or a snowball. There is no snowball spell and a possible cone of cold spell (Roth arcane check 20+), but it is too high for her current ring.
- After dinner Alethra identifies the mushrooms Olly found in the Underdark, oyster mushrooms, which they give to Judith after Olly builds a little fort with them. Roth goes through the mail, finding the note from Korfel about the glasses, a note from the brewery about a new ale being ready at the end of spring and an information report from the brothel.
- Alethra has a letter from Li telling her about the job he is on being extended and how he is doing well, and finally starting to think magical items are useful. Alethra then writes a reply of several pages. She works on the puzzle book in the evening as Roth practices the harp.
- Alethra and Roth have breakfast together before going their separate ways. Alethra goes back to the library, finding a few more books, and studying them. The mushroom she was told was called Still Waters in Silent Caves is called Teacup Madness, as heating the mushroom top in hot water causes a toxin to release which causes minor hallucinations. The drawing is not great, but she thinks this is the same mushroom.
- Roth goes and sells 5 old long bows (90 gold) and his hand crossbow (50 gold) and then pays the balance of 200 gold (60) for a +1 hand crossbow. Roth then heads to the temple of the Raven Queen to get some holy water. Upon arrival he is shown directly to Katrina's office where a middle aged female dwarf cleric also sits (she has a beard) and is introduced as Cold'era. Katrina explains that a very famous relic was on the pilgrimage around the various Raven Queen temples and the boat hit a sudden storm and was destroyed. The crew mostly survived, with the priestesses being able to give a rough idea where the boat was sunk. All the temples are mounting various expeditions as quickly as possible, and since Roth is nearby he is called up as a "Guardian" as Cold'era calls, him to help retrieve the item.
- Katrina explains that she can get the party to Gregory's with his help, then is trying to get a boat to get the party as close as they can get. Since Cold'era has seen the item, she can use magic to pin point it's location once she gets close. While Katrina is speaking Branwen hops out of the cloak, bows to Cold'era and gets a small cookie from Katrina.
- After examining the map, Roth notices the area where the ship went down is not too far from a small island where they helped save the wizard Miro not too long ago. Roth messages Gregory asking him to contact Miro for use of his circle then come to their house for lunch. One runner is sent to tell Judith of company for lunch and one is sent to the library to fetch Alethra home for lunch. A third goes with the party in case another errand is needed.
- Althera is fetched from the library by an acolyte of the Raven Queen's temple and went home for lunch very confused.
- Gregory arrives, Alethra is brought up to speed and Cold'era is introduced with a plan starting to come together. There is the possibility of a young kraken, so Katrina sends a runner to buy 25 gold worth of dried meats. The plan is to pick up Beartrum at the barony before Gregory teleports the party out to Miro's island. Alethra and Cold'era go and pick up a wax tablet and stylus at Merlin's (they buy the 4 he has in stock, and 1 cheap notebook 16 gold) in case of research/notes needing to be done underwater. Roth gets 2 more vials of holy water.
- When everyone reconvinces, Gregory teleports himself, Alethra, Roth and Cold'era to the barony, with Judith staying at the house and Katrina going back to the temple to update those nearby on her progress.
- At the barony, Roth presents Beartrum with the dark goggles and he goes with the party to find the lost items. Cold'era is shocked that an owlbear can speak and he introduces himself with very good manners. After a short conversation there is a good chance that the mini mansion will work underwater and not fill up with water, as well as the Tiny Hut spell working to keep the party in an air bubble. The new dwarf cleric Cold'era is still very shocked at the talking owl bear and all the teleportation magic.
- The group thinks it is best to leave Ari and Soot, as Ari is so excited about the full moon at the fey gate, and Soot there for back up, just in case.
- Gregory casts a teleport circle to the tower of Miro at the edge or the Bay of Songs. Gregory and Miro will spend the afternoon, evening and night on the island in case the party needs help from afar. Miro is surprised by the dwarf cleric but even more surprised by the talking and polite owl bear who is also with the party. Miro knows time of essential and leads the party to the boat dock and sets the party off on their adventure.
- Roth talks the helm with Beartrum sitting in the middle of the boat, unsure of what to do. Roth thinks it is 3-4 hours to the area that was initially marked on the map that Katrina drew.
- After 5 hours Roth is pretty confident that they are close to the area where the boat went down per the map. After reaching the area Alethra and Cold'era went up on the brooms, with Olly on Alethra's shoulder. Beartrum and Roth stayed in the boat. Cold'era cast the Locate Object spell every 10 mins and flew the broom as fast as possible to try and get a ping on the item. The search started as the sun was starting to get low and on the 5th cast of the spell, Cold'era found the object. She then stopped over the spot and Alethra contacted Roth via Olly, with Alethra using Fire Bolt to send up a small fire and steam some water.
- Roth arrived 25 mins later with the boat. The party plans to spend the night on the boat and then go down in the water after the party gets a long rest. Roth casts the mini mansion, with Cold'era being delighted with the accommodations and her guest room with hot tub/sauna combination.
