Session 110 - April 28, 2022 Report

General Summary

1305 - 1st Moon of Winter - Duael (7th Day)

• The party then continues to host a very well received event at their home for the winter court season.
• After hearing from Arannis, Roth casts detect magic all over the room, trying to find any "out of place" magic for anything magical item that could be causing the issue with the odd behavior, but does not find anything odd downstairs. Roth then chats with Vidalia letting her know something odd may be going on and her telling him that there are no official jobs for this event, just implies it is her being social.
• Roth sends a message to Ari about suspicious behavior. Merry's new wine merchant friend, Thomas Melody then starts hitting on Merry hard. Merry is not putting up with this, and takes him to his wife, who slaps him and drags him outside. Merry then goes back to the rounds.
• Roth stops the couple from leaving, using all his charms, convincing the wife, Joanne, to leave the husband locked in the cellar until Arannis can return and they can make sure that Thomas was not drugged or poisoned. Joanne thinks it might be a love potion, as she had heard of those. Roth locks Thomas away and escorts Joanne upstairs to dance.
• While upstairs, Ari begins to chat up Lord and Lady Avery, who were arguing about a missing 750 gold, quite loudly. Ari starts to ask them about what they tried food or drink wise, and how they are enjoying the evening.
• Alethra finds Roth after his dances, explaining to her in Celestial the events unfolding and what he thinks is going on, as well as the fact that Arannis is about to return.
• Arannis then returns, posts two guards at the door and ask to speak with the entire party in private, as Alethra leads him to the small study away from the event. Roth then heads downstairs from the dancing, with Lady Georgina Garin giving him a pinch and wink as he walks past her.
• Roth resummons Olly and asks her to go find Merry, but she is suddenly behind him, along with Ari, as the 4 meet and chat with Arannis in a cone of silence so that no one can hear their concerns or plans.
• Roth decides to go examine the 1 person they know is awaiting the potion or effect to wear off. After getting Joanne and Thomas, there is no real conclusion on what happened, but as he is not in poor health, Arannis suggests they wait an hour to see if the effect will wear off or there is some additional cause.
• Alethra goes to the flowers and tries to make sure none of them are exotic or casting any area of affect with smell or scent. She is pretty sure it is not the flowers.
• Ari is asked to keep people at the party until everyone can be confirmed to be healthy and safe to leave without any issues. Merry with invisible Olly start telling stories about magical food and drink at the party, playing up the chaos.
• In the kitchen, Judith, Arannis and Roth discuss if the issue could be with the food, and Judith explains that she made everything and get the ingredients from the normal vendors, and all the wait staff was people who she knew and worked with before.
• Roth then tells Olly to let Merry know there may be a doppelganger or person who can shape shift. Merry then starts to spread rumors of the party having special "magical" drinks, and creating chaos.
• Merry then over the top follows around one of the serves, while Olly keeps an eye on the rest. Olly is not able to discern if any of them seem smug or otherwise, but suggests maybe one of the footmen on the stairs did it. Merry is not convinced.
• Some of the heads of the merchants guilds seem a bit out of it, either silly, dancing by themselves, overly flirting with everyone, etc. Annette seems a bit drunk, but not too much.
• "Violet" or Vidalia introduces herself to Ari and they chat about possible jobs and the evening and how she is delighted to have been invited and meet all the lovely people, as well as complimenting the food and drink.
• Roth chats with Annette to get her thoughts on the evening, and she seems a little drunk, but nothing as over the top as others.
• Alethra then starts to make a list of all the people who have been "affected" and tries to come up with a list of similar items to confirm why these particular people are being targeted.
• Alethra, Arannis, and Roth check on Thomas after an hour has passed, and he seems to have recovered, only slightly remembering his behavior and is now in horror at his actions, and is very concerned that Arannis is asking him questions as well. Thomas ate a cream puff, some Tiefling eggs, beer, a little wine, a second beer. He was not really sure what happened to cause him to act that way. His wife is then called downstairs, and each is sure the other is not a person in disguise or a doppelganger, and the party quietly slips out the side, leaving the mystery unsolved.
• Roth then thinks he needs to go invisible to spot someone or something while no one else is looking. While upstairs, Ari casts see invisibility and begins her walk through of the party. After fully checking the party, she sees the back of someone leave the garden, invisible.
• The chase begins, with Ari/Alethra using dimension door, Roth flying with his cloak and Merry and Arannis taking a stroll behind them. The party sees a small garden entrance with leaves which are moving a bit too much not to have someone just walked past them at a house a small ways up the road.
• Alethra stands on the wall at the back of the garden, Ari flies above, Merry and Arannis block the side entrance, with Roth invisible on the roof. Merry plays the pan pipes of haunting, trying to scare the person, with no success. With a 38 Roth sees in the back corner near a drain, the shadows are not quite right, and hits him for 40 points of damage. The person is then able to be located by the rest of the party.
• The rouge quickly puts up a hand, answering the party's questions about the job, the items he was given to slip into drinks (all none lethal), he was paid 500 gold (half now and half on completion), and how he was to pick up the rest of the funds at The Last Flagon, where he took the job, tomorrow afternoon. He says that the point was to discredit those running for the Head of Commerce, and a few more for good measure/not make it look too suspicious.
• The party then thoroughly makes him scared as heck, and he give up all the information, and his ring, which he is not happy about. Arannis then goes back to the party, and leave the group to take care of the problem.
• The thief is taken the Barony (Ari uses teleport), left with Beartrum, who will watch him and kill him if he tries to escape, and Sybil is let know there is one more eating with them for breakfast tomorrow.
• Alethra then casts a sending to Tristian, who opens a tree for them in the magical university. The party has been away from their house and event for about half an hour, and the people inside are starting to wonder what happened, as Arannis has kept people at the house.
