Waunican Species in Mirateia | World Anvil

Waunican

If one could travel back in time, one would find in the dark and swampy forests of southern Dercia a creature of gigantic proportions. One could risk standing face-to-face with the gigantic Waunican, a giant reptile that resembles a crocodilian.   The locals believed the Waunican to be a guardian of the wild, with its roots going back to the primordial times when the magic of Mirateia was more widespread.   Unlike the more common crocodilians, both extinct and alive, the Waunican walked with legs better suited for walking on land, raising its body well above the ground. The Waunican featured razor-sharp teeth and powerful jaws that, according to stories, could bite a horse in two with only one bite. Some say that it had eyes that gleamed with an otherworldly glow, believed by some to possess deep wisdom and understanding of the mysteries of Mirateia.   The last sighting of the Wani can is said to culminate with the arrival of the Ancient Empire to the Dercian region, and due to the near destruction of the archives of the empire, it has been impossible for later scholars to find out if the empire had anything to do with the disappearance of the beast, but many believe that the mages of the empire hunted the beast to extinction due to the danger it brought to their operations in the area and that due to its connections with the magical lines, different parts of the Waunican could be used as magical ingredients.

Considering how fast crocodiles can move on land when they want to, I am genuinely terrified of this thing. XD
