Wadiatoris Physical / Metaphysical Law in Mirateia | World Anvil

Wadiatoris

The rare natural phenomenon known as Wadiatoris occurs in the skies above the continent and leaves the observers with a breathtaking display of lights.
Despite several attempts to determine the rate of the phenomenon, it has proven almost impossible to find a system for its occurrence. The only thing that scholars have figured out so far is that the shortest amount of time between two of these events is 10 years, with the last occurrence taking place in 1275
The Wadiatoris only occurs when specific alignments and energies in the skies align. The phenomenon occurs when the night is darkest, the stars shine with intensity, and no clouds are in sight. First, it begins slowly but steadily builds up, and soon enough, colourful lights dance across the skies. The lights take on the colours of celestial blue, ethereal crimson with edges of vibrant gold. The colours can be seen all over the continent, running in a west-to-eastern direction.
Throughout the history of Mirateia, many have told stories of the Wadiatoris that light up the sky, but the most widespread and accepted are that the lights are a show from the gods and their blessings. Some believe the light's colours correspond with different gods, although no one can agree on what deity and colour go along. The followers of the Starlighters Pantheon that are the prominent religion of the Empire of Dercia believe that the colours of blue and red represent deities such as Mara. In contrast, other religions attach these colours to other deities.
The priests and clerics of the different religions can agree on one thing when the phenomenon occurs, the boundary between the mortal realm and the realm of the gods. The religious professions and the common people engage in prayers, songs and rituals, with many of the commoners praying to their chosen deities for blessings and guidance.

I love that you've made these really quite rare. I like the different theories as to what they are.
