The Veilblight Plague
The Veilblight Plague is considered to be one of the worst plagues ever to hit what is now the Dercian Empire, despite only hitting the area twice in recorded history, the plague was decimating populations and some scholars believe the plague to be the reason why the region was never fully developed to the same standard as other places such as Principality of Clifia or Ibraghian Theocracy and that it was only during the Ancient Empire that the region was brought up to the same standard to a degree.
It is believed that the plague first arrived with an immune person on a caravan at some point in history, the exact point in time having been lost to time, others believe that the first person was someone that had angered the gods and were cursed as a result.
Despite The Veilblight Plague having not reappeared in the Empire for centuries, the fear of it refuring are still very much alive in the cultures that make up the Empire, stories endue in songs, cautionary tales and nursery rhymes are told to the children who dont maintain a good hygiene that the blighted hands will reach them if they dont.
Transmission & Vectors
The Veilblight Plague can spread both through droplets from coughing and sneezing, and getting into contract with someone already infected by being exposed to fluid from blighted nodes and blackened lesions.
Secondary causes for the spread are through rats, fleas and other vermin that can spread the disease in crowded areas such as the cities.
Prevention
When a wave of the plague hit, healers and alchemists would make potent pultices to be applied to blighted nodes to drain the sickness, despite this the survival rate was always very slim.
Shrines to the gods and in particular those belonging to Lysan them were flooded with offerings in an attempt to get some divine intervention against the plague. And despite the best attempts of the divine, the gods can't be everywhere and help everyone.
As more information was gathered about the plague, quarantines were enforced in infected districts infected homes were marked with black symbols and pyres were prepared to handle the death
Cultural Reception
when The Veilblight Plague hit what is now the Empire of Dercia, entire towns and cities are said to have been abandoned during the outbreaks, peoples fear of the plauge lead to social isolation and communities becoming more isolated than ever.
Some cultures in the regions that were hit hardest by the plague believed that it was a divine punishment, leading to purges of those considered to be the reason that the anger of the gods had hit them. other cultures belive that its a result of spirits or a strong curse.
